Alarm.com is seeking a a passionate engineer to work at the intersection of hardware and software to join our Automation team and contribute to our internal Hardware in Loop (HIL) infrastructure. The interdisciplinary nature of our work will have you interfacing with various teams in the R&D department ranging from hardware/RF to embedded and Linux firmware, as well as across departments with software and quality engineers.
The Automation team is uniquely positioned as a service team, where the customers are the various R&D and product teams seeking to integrate automated testing and automation tools into their workflows. Our expertise in interacting with and manipulating hardware/devices under test enables teams to validate the latest firmware on the hardware intended for production. As a member of this team, you will work with us to improve and expand our infrastructure and interface with these teams to ensure they leverage our tools as effectively as possible.
As a market leader in home security, we not only integrate with best-in-class products, but also conduct in-house R&D centered on Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Supporting efforts such as battery power consumption testing and communication stability testing falls within our team's expertise.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a similar technical discipline. Equivalent demonstrable experience will also be considered.
- 7+ years of scripting experience with Python.
- Experience with Python web frameworks (Django and/or Flask). Proven experience developing in a Linux environment.
- Familiarity with developing tools/products using the Raspberry Pi platform.
- Rigorous attention to detail with a focus on robustness, scalability, and quality of products.
- Self-motivated with the discipline to thoroughly test and vet designs.
- Organized with strong communication skills and a customer service mentality.
- Ability to collaborate with product teams to interpret high-level requirements into specific product specifications. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a small, fast-paced
environment
Bonus:
- 3+ year of professional experience developing software APIs.
- 3+ year of professional UI development (JavaScript and/or React).
- 3+ year of professional experience with CI/CD platforms (Bamboo, Jenkins, GitLab, etc.).
- Familiarity with testing frameworks including pytest.
- Familiarity with Docker.
- Prior experience with hardware in loop (HIL) testing.
- Previous experience in working with cellular and local area radios, home automation protocols, USB and Ethernet, and various modern sensors. Master of Science degree.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain and expand features of our internal Raspberry Pi-based tool for remote hardware interfacing.
- Support the CI/CD pipeline to execute unit, integration, and other tests when new firmware becomes available.
- Support various R&D and product teams in utilizing the automation tools developed by our team.
- Support our pytest-based test infrastructure to eliminate friction points and ensure scalability as supported products and feature sets grow.
- Build and enhance existing hardware and firmware automation and test equipment to optimize and reduce manual testing time.
- Work independently while collaborating with senior engineers to ensure alignment with company goals and strategies.
