The Team


As a global engineering powerhouse, our teams are spread across Australia, China, USA, Netherlands, and Singapore, representing a vibrant mosaic of cultures and engineering viewpoints.

We are looking for a passionate, Senior Backend Engineer interested in building intuitive applications that our customers love. A key part of Airwallex’s Business Account suite, this team help scale our Bill Pay product to meet the growing demands of data and feature complexity.

This role is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of our financial infrastructure and our customer facing applications.

The Role:

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will help define and implement our team’s technical strategy to meet an evolving set of product and engineering challenges. You will take ownership of projects from conception to delivery, leading the building of APIs, workflows and data pipelines to serve our ever expanding product needs.

Our team is breaking new engineering ground and we have the opportunity to define innovative solutions for a number of challenges, paving the way for other teams to follow in our footsteps.

About you:

  • Have a strong customer oriented mindset with a track record of product thinking.

  • Have a strong aptitude for system thinking, writing high-quality code and documentation, with a preference for JVM/Kotlin.

  • Have experience with cloud services, Docker and Kubernetes. Experience with data pipeline technologies like Kafka, KStreams/KTables or Flink is a plus.

  • Have a demonstrated history of using a wide range of appropriate testing practices.

  • Enjoy collaborating with a diverse group of individuals, bridging gaps between different teams and areas of expertise.
