Description
We are building the core infrastructure and operating system for autonomous platforms
This system is the control layer that enables real-world autonomous operations — coordinating drones, docking stations, and edge systems in real time. It is responsible for mission execution, system state, communication, and data flow across distributed autonomous fleets.
This is not a typical backend role. You will be working on a distributed, real-time system that acts as the operational backbone of autonomous missions in production environments.
The platform includes:
- Real-time telemetry, control, and system state
- Mission planning, validation, and execution
- Multi-platform orchestration across fleets
- Video streaming and high-throughput data pipelines
As a Senior Engineer, you will build foundational systems, make architecture-critical decisions, and help define how autonomous platforms are operated at scale.
Responsibilities
- Build the core backend systems that power autonomous platform operations
- Design distributed services with strict latency, reliability, and scalability constraints
- Own architecture decisions across services, communication layers, and data flow
- Develop systems for mission execution, orchestration, and real-time control
- Implement high-throughput, low-latency data pipelines (telemetry, video)
- Design communication layers between distributed components (edge ↔ cloud ↔ platform)
- Push system performance, reliability, and observability to production-grade standards
Requirements
- Proven experience building and operating backend systems in production
- Strong fundamentals in software engineering, system design, and clean architecture
- Experience with distributed systems and microservices architectures
- Proficiency in at least one backend language: Java, Python, Go, C++, or Rust
- Deep understanding of concurrency, performance, and failure modes in distributed systems
- Experience with real-time or event-driven systems
- Familiarity with communication/messaging systems (Kafka, gRPC, WebSockets, or similar)
We care more about how you think and build systems than specific tools or frameworks.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with real-time data systems (telemetry, sensors, video)
- Familiarity with video streaming (WebRTC, GStreamer, FFmpeg)
- Experience with geospatial systems
- Background in robotics, drones, or autonomous systems
- Experience with ROS2, MAVLink, or similar communication protocols
