Navigation Systems Engineer
Location: Petah Tikva (IL)
Description
We're seeking a hands-on Systems Engineer specializing in Navigation and Homing to join our team. In this multidisciplinary role, you'll lead the development and integration of GNSS-denied navigation and precise homing capabilities across our aerial systems. You will operate at the intersection of perception, control, and system architecture, ensuring reliable performance from mission-level navigation down to precise target acquisition and landing.
Your strong engineering judgment, system-level thinking, and ability to bridge theory, algorithms, and real-world performance will be key to delivering robust autonomous capabilities.
Responsibilities
Define and manage system-level requirements, interfaces, and architecture for Navigation and Homing capabilities (including GNSS-denied operation).
Lead the system design of navigation and homing solutions, including sensor fusion (IMU, vision, GNSS, etc.), state estimation, and target acquisition.
Collaborate with R&D, software, perception, control, and hardware teams to integrate navigation and homing into the overall drone system.
Drive the transition between mission-level navigation and terminal homing (e.g., approach, docking, landing).
Lead and support design reviews, perform root-cause analysis, and debug complex navigation/homing issues using a data-driven approach.
Define and drive system integration, validation, and testing:
- Simulation (GNSS-denied scenarios)
- Lab validation
- Flight testing (including edge cases)
Be involved in documentation, release processes, and system-level decision making.
Support multiple projects as a domain expert, ensuring reuse of navigation and homing building blocks across systems.
Management and coordination with subcontractors (e.g., sensors, navigation modules, perception systems).
Requirements
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Robotics, or Systems Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, robotics, or multidisciplinary product development.
- Strong understanding of navigation, state estimation, and sensor fusion (e.g., Kalman filters, VIO, SLAM).
- Experience with homing / target tracking / precision landing systems (vision-based, beacon-based, or similar).
- Solid understanding of system design and integration processes.
- Hands-on experience with lab work, debugging, and system bring-up (sensors, embedded systems, flight systems).
- A collaborative team player with a systematic, problem-solving mindset.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written) with excellent communication skills.
Advantage:
- Experience with drones, robotics, or autonomous systems.
- Background in computer vision / perception systems.
- Experience with GNSS-denied navigation environments.
- Familiarity with Ardupilot or similar flight stacks.
- Experience in a fast-paced, iterative development environment.
- Field testing experience, especially in real-world and degraded conditions.
- Experience with safety-critical or autonomous systems.
