Job Description:

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a Summer Intern to join our MAP Engineering Department based in Mobile, AL.

You will be part of a team providing technical and engineering support in the final assembly line as the aircraft nears completion working on every aspect of assembly and so have the fantastic opportunity to see the physical product every day. Working in MAP can be challenging but with a high connection with our purpose as a company. Activities can include design, static analysis and/or fatigue and damage tolerance analysis from beside the aircraft. Duties can include troubleshooting, development of design solutions, supporting modifications, performing analyses for either metallic or composite aircraft components whilst gaining an appreciation of the structural airframe. As if that isn't enough, there will also be an opportunity to gain exposure to cabin & cargo installation, systems installation and systems activities.

Our Engineers at the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing facility take our aircraft from concept to customer delivery – working with production teams on every aspect of assembly from managing technical information, quality control, maintenance tasks and health & safety – along flowlines and flightlines. Your Working Environment:

On ‘Airbus Way’ you will find the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. The facility, which strengthens the U.S. aerospace industry, is part of Airbus’ strategy to enhance its global competitiveness by meeting the growing needs of its customers in the United States and beyond.

Your Challenges:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform various design engineering activities to support production and delivery of aircraft
  • Supporting improvement activities.
  • Design investigations.
  • Crafting appropriate documentation
  • Position requires basic knowledge of classical and numerical (Finite Element) stress analysis methods with a basic understanding of design principles.
  • Solving structural analysis problems within Static Stress, F&DT and FEM, through the use of appropriate AIRBUS methods, processes and tools - this will include extracting information from previous analysis and/or carrying out FEM analysis and performing calculations to validate structural performance;
  • Develop solutions to simple/routine technical problems of limited scope.
  • Applies technical principles and follows detailed instructions.
  • Communicates issues, solutions, ideas, and status of current work to supervision.
  • Sharing your assessments and analysis to mentors and/or more senior engineers
  • Learn and leverage tool sets well.

Your Boarding Pass:

Required:

  • Current student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace/Mechanical/Civil Engineering degree. Curriculum exposure in airframe design, static analysis, mechanics of materials, and/or a CAD application
  • Proficiency with MS Office and G-Suite.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic team environment.
  • Ability to interpret and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Some knowledge of overall aircraft structural design principles and techniques
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and bill of material systems.
  • Inquisitive attitude with good problem solving skills.
  • High level of commitment and proactivity, taking ownership of projects.
  • Willing to learn from mistakes and channel feedback into personal development.
  • Demonstrating tenacity, resilience and perseverance when faced with adversity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Dependable, self-motivated and accessible.
  • A strong computer background, including MS Office application experience (Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point) and Google Suite application experience (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail).
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to work with all levels of personnel and subject areas.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written)

Preferred:

  • Currently pursuing a Minor in Computer Science
  • Airframe design, MRB, CATIA, Isami, NASTRAM, and PATRAM is desired.
  • Previous Airbus internship experience

Ability to work in the US without current, or future, need of visa sponsorship/work authorization is required for this position.
