Job Description:
Position Summary:
The Senior Director, Safety and Flight Operations Technical Affairs provides Safety, Technical, Functional and Operational
Aeronautical Expertise to customer airlines, regulatory agencies, safety organizations and industry safety/technical
working groups to enhance, promote and protect the positive image of Airbus in the Americas.
Responsibilities include interfacing with and supporting Airbus operators, regulatory agencies, safety organizations and
other flight operational related groups to provide safety and flight operations technical support. The Senior Director will
function as assistant director of the Crisis Command Center and assume the director position when the VP Safety,
Security and Flight Operations Technical Affairs is unavailable. The director will coordinate and collaborate with Airbus
SAS headquarters is an essential task to ensure a common seamless alignment.
Based in Washington, DC, the Senior Director will assess, analyze, and interpret the safety threat environment across the
Americas as it pertains to real and perceived external challenges to Airbus aircraft operations. Through a comprehensive
network the role will promote a safety culture while providing flight operations technical support that aligns with Airbus
culture, policies and values.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Responsibility Specifics : 80%
● Serve as the Airbus initial point of contact for flight operations safety, security, and technical related matters in
the North America Region.
● Provide Technical, Functional and Operational Aeronautical Expertise to the NTSB related to any major Airbus
incident/accident investigation either on scene or as a member of a Cockpit Voice Recorder, Flight Data Recorder,
Operations or Pilot Interview working groups; when required serve as Airbus spokesperson at NTSB Public
Hearings.
● Assume position as Director of the Airbus Americas Crisis Control Center in the absence of the VP Safety, Security
and Technical Affairs to coordinate and manage accident investigation activities related to any accident or serious
incident involving Airbus aircraft operated in the Americas.
● Provide continued coordination of regulatory approvals required from the FAA, ATO, USAF, FCC, DHS, TSA and
CBP for French and German registered Airbus aircraft to conduct production flight tests and customer
acceptance flights and other flights as approved by the FAA in US Airspace.

● Provide Safety, Technical, Functional and Operational Aeronautical Expertise to customer airlines, regulatory
organizations, and safety initiatives with FAA, TSA, CBP, ATO, FAA ARAC, CAST, JIMDAT, NTSB, A4A, ATO, ALPA,
APA, FSF, FCC, RTCA, NBAA, DHS, TSA, FAM, CBP, NASM for the enhancement of aviation safety.
● Serve as primary member for Commercial Aviation Safety Team (CAST) Aviation Team and associated working
groups.
● Serve as a primary member for Aviation Safety Team (AST) working groups.
● Serve as alternate Airbus representative for the Airlines for America Safety Council and Operations Council.
● Work with ST and STL groups and Airbus customers to insure current and future FCOM, QRH, MMEL and other
flight operations related documentation, procedures and policies are the safest, efficient, comprehensive,
consistent.
● Provide and make presentations at various organizations on topics related to Airbus safety and flight operations
including Fly By Wire Technology, ROPS and other operational systems and topics. Arrange for Airbus SMEs to
present when appropriate.
● Participate in Cockpit Focus Group (CFG) to ensure future cockpit design continues to improve flight safety and
involves customer inputs.
● Support Flight Test both in Mobile and Toulouse for “First Flights” as a Pilot
2. Oversee Program Governance: 2%
● Manage annual budget and execute within budget.
3. Execute, Monitor and Control: 3%
● Track any milestones and deliverables.
● Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations when
required.
4. Additional Responsibilities: 15%
● Coordinate, manage and secure the necessary FAA mandated Special Flight Authorizations (SFAs) and TSA
Airspace Waiver for French and German registered Airbus experimental or production flight test aircraft to
conduct flight operations in US Airspace consisting of humanitarian flights, ferry flights, test and certification
flights, sales & customer demonstration flights, route proving, aerial demonstrations and static displays; in
addition coordinate with the respective airport authorities involved such as FAA, TSA, CBP, airport police, air
traffic control, ground handling, aircraft security and ARFF for the necessary operational approvals including site
visits and evaluations when necessary.
● Assume the roles of VP, Safety, Security and Technical Affairs in the absence of the Standing Vice President
● Participate in Airbus Americas Senior Leadership Meetings
● Identify and substantiate the need for the implementation of design changes to Airbus aircraft to make them
more competitive in the U.S.
● Coordinate and harmonize the Crisis Command Center directives and best practices with Toulouse CCC.
● Participate in regular CCC drills.
● Other duties as assigned.
Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:

● Bachelor Degree in Aviation, Safety or related field
● Engineering Degree (preferred)
Experience:
● Minimum 10 years’ experience in the U.S. FAR Part 121 Line Operations as a Pilot
● Held the position of Captain at a U.S. FAR Part 121 Air Carrier
● Minimum 2000 flight hours (combined flight / simulator) experience in Airbus Fly By Wire (FBW) Aircraft
(Captain, Instructor and/Check Airmen)
● Airline management experience in Flight Crew Training, Flight Standards, Flight Operations and/or Flight Safety
● Experience as either Director Flight Standards, Fleet Captain or Chief Pilot desired
● Minimum 5 years experience in working with the U.S. Government and Industry Airline Safety Organizations
Licensure/Certifications:
● FAA Airline Transport License (ATP)
● Type Rating in at least one Airbus Fly By Wire (FBW) aircraft (A220, A319/320/321, A330, A350)
