Staff LiDAR Algorithms Engineer

Team: Software

Location: Bangalore

Commitment: Full-Time

Workplace Type: onsite

About us:
Aeva’s mission is to bring the next wave of perception to a broad range of applications from automated driving to industrial robotics, consumer electronics, consumer health, security, and beyond. Aeva is transforming autonomy with its groundbreaking sensing and perception technology that integrates all key LiDAR components onto a silicon photonics chip in a compact module. Aeva 4D LiDAR sensors uniquely detect instant velocity in addition to 3D position, allowing autonomous devices like vehicles and robots to make more intelligent and safe decisions.

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Staff LiDAR Algorithms Engineer to serve as a technical leader in the design and development of algorithms for our next-generation LiDAR sensor products. This is a player-coach role: you will personally drive critical algorithm development hands-on while providing technical direction across the sensing pipeline.

You will work across the full signal chain — from raw sensor data through DSP, detection, ranging, and point cloud generation — with a strong end-to-end systems perspective that connects algorithm performance to opto-mechanical behavior, hardware constraints, and top-level sensor requirements. You will collaborate closely with firmware, software, optics, and systems teams to deliver robust, production-quality algorithms for automotive-grade LiDAR.

What you'll do

  • Own the architecture, design, and development of LiDAR sensing algorithms — including signal processing, detection, ranging, calibration, and point cloud processing pipelines.
  • Lead DSP algorithm development: define signal chain architecture, implement and optimize processing stages (filtering, FFT-based methods, peak detection, noise mitigation, etc.), and establish performance targets with clear verification criteria.
  • Develop and refine computer vision and perception-oriented algorithms that operate on LiDAR data — including clustering, tracking, object detection, and sensor fusion interfaces as applicable to the product road map.
  • Conduct algorithm trade studies, simulation, and analysis to validate design decisions; analyze lab and field test data to diagnose performance issues and drive iterative improvement.
  • Define algorithm requirements, interfaces, and performance budgets in coordination with firmware, embedded software, and systems teams — ensuring traceability from top-level sensor specs to implementation.
  • Support integration, bring-up, and validation of algorithms on target hardware; debug cross-domain issues spanning optics, DSP, firmware, and software.
  • Serve as the senior technical liaison for algorithms across engineering disciplines and in design/milestone reviews; provide technical guidance on critical deliverables as needed.

What you'll have

  • 10+ years of experience in algorithm development for sensors, DSP, computer vision, or embedded perception systems, with end-to-end ownership of complex algorithm pipelines through development and release.
  • Deep hands-on expertise in LiDAR, Radar or similar time-of-flight/ranging sensor algorithms. Automotive LiDAR experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong background in DSP (digital filter design, spectral analysis, detection theory, noise modeling) and software algorithm implementation (C/C++, Python or MATLAB for prototyping and production).
  • Solid understanding of computer vision fundamentals — point cloud processing, 3D geometry, calibration, and performance evaluation metrics.
  • Familiarity with the constraints of deploying algorithms on embedded/FPGA/SoC platforms, including fixed-point optimization, latency budgets, and resource limitations.
  • Working knowledge of sensor system architecture — including how opto-mechanical design, optical performance, and hardware limitations affect algorithm behavior and achievable performance.
  • Experience with ASPICE, ISO 26262, or ISO/SAE 21434 workflows is a plus, particularly as they relate to algorithm verification and documentation.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills; comfortable driving technical trade-offs across multidisciplinary teams.

What's in it for you

  • Be the first algorithms engineer in our Bangalore office in this domain — help establish the team, culture, and technical foundation from the ground up
  • Be part of a fast-paced and dynamic team
