Senior Software Engineer, Issuing Team

The Adyen Issuing product is an API-driven product for generating physical and virtual payment cards for business use cases. This enables our customers to benefit from the features of Mastercard and Visa cards such as interchange kickbacks, chargebacks, intelligent transaction declines, etc. B2B card transactions can be a safer and much cheaper alternative to bank or wire transfers. 

 

The Chicago Issuing team is currently building a best-in-class dispute case management api. This is particularly interesting to our online travel agency customers who are exposed to risks of airlines and hotels going bankrupt between booking time and services rendered. By using Adyen issued cards, the travel agency can reverse a transaction by raising a dispute via the API. 

 

We are building a deceptively simple api that is scheme agnostic, and that hides the huge complexity of getting money back into our customers account. The issuing product has entered a phase of hyper-growth, and many new backend systems are currently being built to accommodate the 100x growth expected over the near term.

 

 

What you'll do

  • You will bring a new perspective on best engineering practices, improvements, and opportunities.
  • You will lead complex technical projects from requirements analysis through design, implementation, testing, and launch into production.
  • You will be hands-on and contribute to the implementation while offering technical guidance and mentoring to other engineers.
  • You will mentor and guide engineers to improve their technical skills and make informed decisions.
  • You will work from the office at least three days per week. 

 

Who you are

  • You have at least 8 years of professional experience as an engineer and are currently working as a Senior Software Engineer or at a similar level.
  • You will raise the bar on the software creation process, system design, reliability, testing, and general problem-solving beyond my team.
  • You have great communication skills and can articulate complex technical vision and strategy to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • You are skilled at collaborating with various people, including senior leaders, Product Managers, and other Software Engineers.

 

Required technical qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of building Java-based web services (RESTful, SOAP)
  • Experienced in designing performant database models in PostgreSQL or other relational databases
  • Knowledgeable of various software architecture paradigms such as event-driven or message queueing systems
