Engineering Manager - Design System

At Adyen, we recognize the immense value of a well-structured design system in empowering teams to build the most seamless and scalable financial platform product. Our design system, called Bento, is vital in providing a cohesive and seamless experience for our customers. It serves as a key foundation in ensuring every interaction with our product is intuitive, accessible, and consistent - aligning perfectly with our mission to deliver exceptional service. 

What you’ll do

• Recruit, empower, develop and retain top talent, creating an inspiring and collaborative team environment with an open communication/feedback culture internally and externally.
• Set clear individual and team goals that align with our strategic ambitions in close collaboration with the Design Lead.
• Work closely with UX designers, product managers, development leads, and other stakeholders and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
• Continuously assess the design system’s efficiency, gather and analyze feedback from users and stakeholders to identify areas for improvement, cultivating and advocating for a strong brand and community around the design system within the organization.
• Adapt to different contexts and tailor communication style to suit different audiences, ranging from technical language with developers, design approach conversations, to more strategic and business focused discussions.
• Have a multiplier effect by motivating team members and providing coaching in areas including but not limited to: coding standards and best practices,testing and quality assurance, product roadmap discussions, etc.
• Stay updated on the latest trends and technologies and proactively seek out to implement new features or enhancements to improve the design system.

Who you are:

• Passionate about and experienced with Design Systems.
• 4+ years of experience leading and supporting front-end developers while building front-end applications.
• Strong technical foundation, including Python, CI/CD tooling, provisioning tools, Linux, and network protocols.
• A strategic thinker who enjoys planning ahead and aligning technical and design goals.
• Committed to fostering a supportive and growth-oriented environment — comfortable setting roadmaps, mentoring engineers, providing transparent feedback, and championing career development.
• A team player who values collaboration and ensures everyone feels empowered to contribute.
• An excellent communicator, able to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders with clarity and empathy.
• Experienced in working across global teams, building meaningful and effective relationships.
