M-F first shift. May included occasional early evening hours

Travel to various locations in Southeastern Wisconsin required

All duties and responsibilities of Technologist II in their specialty/modality.  Proficiently operates imaging equipment to perform basic and advanced procedures/studies. Accurately differentiates between normal and pathologic findings.  Positions patient and selects proper technical factors for accurate procedures. Adjusts factors to attain the appropriate images.  Serves as a technical resource, role model and/or preceptor for students and staff. Acts as a resource to staff at own facility and throughout the system.

Facilitates the development of standardized Market policies, protocols, and procedures in relation to technical quality standards and compliance for vascular and general ultrasound.  Actively participates on Market Subspecialty Councils and other committees with the development and implementation of standard clinical practices for the specific modality.  Actively participates in the formal and informal processes for improvement leveraging problem solving techniques which will enhance the quality of imaging and service to our customers. Oversees technical quality standards and collects data to support the measurement and tracking components of quality management.

Functions as the technical subject matter expert for the medical imaging modality within a defined geography of the organization (ie. Patient Service Area).  Partners with site SMEs, HIT and HTM to update parameters on all modality devices when necessary to implement standard practices across the Region.

Leads activities related to department accreditation for their specialty/modality such as but not limited to:  Specific quality reviews, random quality audits, development of and adherence to standard imaging guidelines as well as activities that involve QI initiatives.

Develops training programs to apply evolving medical imaging techniques. Provides and coordinates technical in-service education programs to develop staff technically, educationally, and professionally.

Trains technical staff in applying clinical protocols and keeps them abreast of evolving techniques.

If applicable, ensures modality specific safety procedures are developed, up to date, distributed and implemented.   Works with individual sites to help maintain compliance with state and other regulatory standards. Develops a rapport with site subject matter experts (SME)s to ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies and safety standards.

Maintains current knowledge of all medical imaging and patient care equipment in the specific modality based on industry standards, regulatory requirements, and manufacturer recommendations

Along with the Medical Director of section, provides equipment recommendations for new purchases or upgrades to devices within their specialty/modality.  Participates in new product review and evaluation.

Maintains communication with the radiologists to assure quality of service.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

License/Registration/Certification Required: Registered Sonographer (RDMS) including vascular (RVT), (RVS), or RT(VS) and RDMS (AB) or (BR) issued by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months.

Education Required: Graduate of accredited educational program of diagnostic medical sonography, including vascular ultrasound.

Experience Required: Typically requires 3 years of experience performing all imaging procedures diagnostic, therapeutic, or invasive within the ultrasound modality. Experience in training and coaching new imaging techniques. Experience developing, communicating and implementing protocol and workflow changes in collaboration with Radiologists and Imaging Services’ leadership. Experience instructing, coaching and providing constructive feedback to teammates needing additional support, training, or education to improve performance. Experience facilitating technical discussions with Radiologists and teammates

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Extensive technical knowledge of ultrasound techniques and equipment.

Advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology and modality specific safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Knowledge of the various accrediting bodies utilized in healthcare and their specific requirements as it applies to sonography.

Ability to work independently and travel to locations across the patient service area or market.

Intermediate computer skills, including but not limited to:  WORD, EXCEL, Outlook, MS Teams, SharePoint. Epic, PACS, various post-processing platforms.

Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and patient service skills to work effectively with physicians and other teammates

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, and twist throughout the workday.
Must be able to:
    - lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
    - lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.
    - carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
Must be able to:
    - push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
    - perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.

May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.

Must have clear speech, vision and hearing.

Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
