What you’ll do ​& Who you are

Leadership and Vision:

- Collaborate with the Product Manager to define the squad’s objectives and key results and execute the roadmap and technical strategy to meet business goals and advance our overall engineering strategy. Shape a shared vision and common objectives for the squad.

- Maintain a healthy balance between short-term delivery and long-term sustainability; proactively managing technical debt, enabling swift response to incidents, and anticipating business or industry challenges...

- Lead and drive initiatives with a broader scope (crew or tribe) under the sponsorship of Crew Engineering Leads.

- Help building then empower their team to exemplify the Engineering vision and Ways of Working in coordination with Engineering leadership and peer Engineering Managers

- Promote a culture of innovation and forward-thinking within the squad. Encourage ideas that enhance our product, user experience, and technical capabilities.

- Promote a user-centric mindset for both internal Adevinta users and end users of our products.

Stakeholder Management:

- Align the Squad engineering organization and roadmap with the whole organization, building the needed connections with stakeholders and managing dependencies.

- Collaborate with the Crew Leads and peer Engineering Managers to ensure clear communication, alignment on priorities and goals, and timely resolution of blockers.

- Partner with the Crew leads, aligning on goals and way of working, to ensure the Squad works effectively and achieves the right goals.

- Serve as the primary point of contact for leadership regarding the squad's technical roadmap and priorities.

Budget and Resource Management:

- Efficiently allocate engineering resources and capacity to meet expected goals and outcomes. This includes forecasting and tracking capital expenses (CAPEX), contingent staffing costs, and cloud services expenditures.

- Hire new members when needed, in narrow collaboration with the guilds for the technical aspects, while aiming for the diversity and inclusivity of the team.

Team Growth and Development:

- Inspire and mentor your direct reports, providing guidance, coaching and support to enable the team's success.

- Communicate effectively with the team and other teams to address challenges and resolve issues.

- Foster the team's growth in rigor, efficiency and autonomy - aligned with Adevinta's needs and expectations (e.g. Adevinta Avenues, Our Behaviors).

- Ensure the team has the necessary environment and resources to perform efficiently.

- Shape the Squad's culture while exemplifying Adevinta Behaviors and Engineering principles.

- Manage team members' time off and administrative needs, adhering to local and global HR guidelines.

- Understand each member’s career aspirations and collaboratively develop plans to support their growth at Adevinta, including coordinating training opportunities.

- Be the starting point for the Annual Salary Review for direct reports, and initiate promotion requests when needed.

- Identify key and emerging talent on the squad, succession planning, and partner with engineering leadership to provide growth paths to retain top talent and enable continuity.

Delivery Management and Practices:

- Champion Agile principles and P&E ways of working within the Squad.

- Maintain ultimate accountability for the squad's engineering operational excellence; define and monitor key operational metrics, set ambitious goals, and track progress towards those goals.

- Take ultimate accountability for successful on-time delivery of outcome-based roadmap priorities. Foster a culture of high performance, autonomy, and continuous improvement within the squad.
