The role will work closely with Development, DevOps, Operations, Infrastructure, and Security teams on database provisioning, monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and incident response.

Responsibilities

Database Administration & Support

  • Manage database users, roles, privileges, schemas, and routine configuration changes.

  • Perform routine database administration tasks, including backups, restores, schema changes, and database maintenance.

  • Troubleshoot database connectivity, availability, and configuration-related issues.

Environment Management

  • Set up and maintain database environments across Development, Staging, and Production.

  • Maintain consistent database configurations across environments and follow defined change-management processes.

  • Manage database schema changes and ensure database changes are maintained through appropriate version-control processes.

  • Support reliable movement of database schemas and required data between environments.

Performance Monitoring & Tuning

  • Monitor database health, performance, resource utilization, storage capacity, and availability.

  • Identify and troubleshoot slow queries, blocking, locking, resource constraints, and other database performance issues.

  • Review execution plans, indexing, and query performance, and implement basic database tuning recommendations.

  • Use centralized monitoring and logging tools such as PMM, Prometheus, Grafana, and CloudWatch to monitor database health and respond to actionable alerts.

  • Conduct regular database health checks and support capacity planning activities.

Backup, Recovery & High Availability

  • Configure, monitor, and maintain database backup schedules in accordance with defined policies and recovery requirements.

  • Validate backups regularly and perform restore testing to ensure successful data recovery.

  • Support database replication, failover, and basic high-availability configurations.

  • Investigate and remediate failed backups, replication issues, and database recovery-related incidents.

  • Participate in disaster recovery and business continuity activities related to database environments.

Database Security & Compliance

  • Implement and maintain database security practices, including access control, user privileges, encryption, auditing, and secure configuration.

  • Conduct periodic access reviews for database users and privileges, removing inactive or unauthorized access where required.

  • Apply database patches, security updates, and version upgrades in coordination with Security and Infrastructure teams.

  • Support IT security audits, compliance activities, and reporting related to database infrastructure.

  • Ensure database administration activities follow defined security and change-control policies.

Automation & Scripting

  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or SQL for routine database administration tasks.

  • Automate database health checks, backup validation, monitoring, reporting, and routine maintenance activities where practical.

  • Support continuous improvement of database administration processes through automation and standardization.

Cloud & Managed Database Services

  • Provision, configure, monitor, and maintain managed database services such as AWS RDS for MySQL.

  • Support database scaling, storage management, monitoring, backups, and ongoing maintenance within AWS environments.

  • Work with Cloud and Infrastructure teams on networking, security groups, connectivity, and database infrastructure requirements.

  • Monitor cloud database resource utilization and support capacity planning and optimization activities.

Incident Response & Collaboration

  • Resolve assigned database support incidents and requests within defined SLA and priority timelines.

  • Perform initial triage and troubleshooting of database incidents, including connectivity issues, performance degradation, replication lag, failed jobs, and backup failures.

  • Coordinate with Software Development, DevOps, Operations, Infrastructure, and Security teams to troubleshoot database and application-related issues.

  • Participate in incident response, root-cause analysis, and remediation activities for database-related incidents.

  • Escalate complex or high-impact database issues to the Senior DBA / Database Lead when required.

Documentation & Continuous Learning

  • Maintain accurate documentation for database configurations, environments, access controls, backup procedures, recovery processes, and operational runbooks.

  • Document database changes, incidents, troubleshooting procedures, and known issues.

  • Follow defined database administration, change-management, security, and operational standards.

  • Continuously develop expertise in MySQL, MSSQL, database administration best practices, cloud database services, and emerging database technologies.

Required Qualifications & Experience
