Observability DevOps Engineer - Kubernetes

We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to act as a subject matter expert responsible for building, deploying and continuously supporting the 8x8 Cloud Backend platform and services. The role is highly technical and balanced between engineering and operations roles. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who can act independently, lead other team members, and represent operations core values across the organization while ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance and security.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and deploy observability infrastructure automation solutions for 8x8 environments

• Leverage Grafana Cloud for advanced monitoring and analysis

• Manage and maintain the observability stack based on Mimir, Loki, Tempo, OpenTelemetry

• Stay current with the latest trends and best practices in public cloud

• Provide best practices, recommendations, and guidance for Observability

• Work on automation and implemented IaC processes with Terraform/Terragrunt, Ansible, ArgoCD

• Evaluate current development procedures, recommend and implement tools and practices to increase efficiency and repeatability

• Operational review of existing architecture with the goal of automating and improving the existing and future environments

• Work closely with other teams and promote observability best practices

• Provide support on Incident Response

• Contribute and maintain documentation ensuring knowledge is shared within the team

• Be available for on-call when needed to support the infrastructure and our systems.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Computer Science or relevant field experience

• 5+ years of experience with DevOps technologies, cloud-based provisioning, monitoring, and troubleshooting (preferably in AWS).

• Proven track record managing observability stacks (kube-prometheus-stack, etc)

• Previous experience working with Prometheus or Grafana LGTM stack

• Solid experience in K8s, Terraform in large-scale deployments

• Proficient administering a Linux environment

• Demonstrable expertise around specifying, designing, and implementing system health, performance monitoring tools, and software management tools for 24x7 environments

• Strong debugging and systems analysis skills around identification and rapid issue resolution

• Familiarity with OpenTelemetry

• Scripting skills including bash, python, etc.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a geographically dispersed team
