The Impact You Will Make in this Role

In this role, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

• Provide technical leadership for connected and digital programs within the business group

• Enable growth within the business group through new product development incorporating digital platforms

• Develop back-end and user-facing software as part of digital platforms for multiple divisions within the business group

• Collaborate with cross-divisional teams to define, develop, and deploy software architectures and solutions in alignment with enterprise-wide standards and strategies

• Accelerate research teams and data scientists through the creation of software and systems to streamline data lifecycle management

• Lead intellectual property creation and protection for innovative and groundbreaking solutions

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution (completed and verified before start)

• Three (3) years of experience with software engineering in a private, public, government, or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar major from an accredited institution

• Two (2) or more years of experience with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure

• Experience with languages such as Python, C++, Java, C#, or JavaScript (e.g., React, Angular, Node)

• Familiarity with DevOps tooling like GitHub, Git, Jenkins, Chef, Puppet

• Working knowledge of version control systems, e.g., Git

• Experience with a breadth of technologies such as Services Oriented Architecture (SOA), web-based REST APIs, relational databases, and NoSQL data stores

• Familiarity with Operating Systems such as Linux and Windows

• Experience with firmware development

• Prior work in robotic controls

• Ability to interface with hardware system from software a plus

• Experience leading through the ambiguity of early-stage R&D

• Understanding of intellectual property and the ability to monitor the state of the art

• Collaborative, self-motivated, self-directed, entrepreneurial, and customer-focused

Work location:

• Hybrid Eligible (Job Duties allow for some remote work but require travel to 3M Center in Maplewood, MN at least 3 days per week)

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic/international

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).

Applicable to US Applicants Only:The expected compensation range for this position is $137,439 - $167,981, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
