Description

The Role:

As a Senior IBM Mainframe Hardware and Software Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, lifecycle management and optimization of IBM mainframe hardware and software systems. Leveraging your extensive experience and expertise, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our mainframe systems, while also providing technical leadership and guidance to other engineers in the Recovery Services department. 

What You’ll Do:

  • System Design and Architecture: Design and architect IBM mainframe hardware and software systems, including selecting appropriate hardware components, configuring software settings, and optimizing system architecture for performance and reliability.
  • Installation and Configuration: Lead the installation, configuration, and deployment of IBM mainframe hardware and software components, ensuring adherence to best practices and security standards.
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Proactively identify and resolve hardware and software issues, perform system upgrades, patches, and maintenance tasks to ensure the stability and availability of mainframe systems.
  • Performance Optimization: Analyze system performance metrics, identify performance bottlenecks, and implement optimizations to enhance the performance and efficiency of mainframe systems.
  • Capacity Planning: Conduct capacity planning exercises to forecast future resource requirements and ensure that mainframe systems can scale to meet growing demands.
  • Security and Compliance: Implement and maintain security measures, access controls, and compliance standards to protect mainframe systems from security threats and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Create comprehensive documentation, including system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides. Share knowledge and provide mentorship to junior engineers to foster skill development within the team.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software developers, system administrators, and IT operations staff, to support application deployments, system integrations, and business initiatives.
  • Work supportively with colleagues, operating in a manner that is consistent with 11:11’s Code of Business Ethics and Company Values
  • Responsibly receive, transmit, and handle company data and information per Company data handling agreements, work procedures and policies
  • Review and follow company policies and guidelines, data privacy practices, including annual compliance training certification and policy acknowledgements
  • Additional duties as assigned

Who You Are & What You’ll Bring:

  • 10+ years of experience managing the hardware, software, and overall lifecycle of a critical and diverse production IBM Mainframe environment.   This experience should include all aspects of IBM Mainframe maintenance and administration.
  • Extensive experience with IBM mainframe hardware, including zSeries servers, storage systems, and peripherals. Proficiency in mainframe operating systems, such as z/OS, z/VM, and z/VSE, as well as subsystems like CICS, DB2, and IMS.
  • Strong system administration skills, including installation, configuration, and maintenance of mainframe hardware and software components. Familiarity with tools and utilities for system monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
  • Proven track record of diagnosing and resolving complex hardware and software issues on IBM mainframe systems. Ability to analyze system logs, dumps, and traces to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Understanding of security best practices, access controls, encryption techniques, and compliance requirements relevant to IBM mainframe systems, such as PCI DSS, HIPAA, and GDPR.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including mentoring junior engineers, leading technical projects, and collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Preferred certifications include IBM Certified System Administrator - z/OS, IBM Certified Specialist - System z Technical Support, and other relevant IBM mainframe certifications.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Additional technical certifications or advanced degrees are a plus.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US without visa sponsorship
