About the role
Zscaler is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to be a founding member and lead the technical direction for a new software development team in Platform Experience Engineering. In this role, you will drive the development of data and business intelligence platforms for debuggability, observability, and operability across all Zscalers products and clouds.
Our mission is to build highly-available and performant distributed systems, capable of enabling quick issue identification, resolution, deflection, and prevention. Our ultimate goal is to ensure a smooth and seamless Zscaler experience for our customers.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you will design, code and maintain such innovative platforms. You will partner with the team’s engineering and product managers to drive the vision. You will also coach junior members of the team on development best practices
Responsibilities
Develop features and infrastructure for the Zscaler observability framework.
Develop APIs for various zscaler services to provide visibility into service functionality.
Design and develop protocols for interaction between various components within Zscaler Infrastructure.
Create and own various microservices within the Zscaler Observability framework.
Recreate complex customer and production reported issues to determine root cause and verify the fix.Work with QA and other engineering teams to investigate and resolve production issuesYou will be expected to participate in all phases of the product development cycle, from definition, design, through implementation and testDevelop functional specifications, assess task requirements and scheduling, and participate in the development, debug and support
As part of the team you will be responsible for end to end delivery of a feature.
Qualifications
Graduate or Masters in Computer Science Engineering or a related field.
8+ years experience and proficiency in Software Development.
Must be expert in HTTP/S protocol along with ability to write highly scalable REST APIs.
Worked on microservices based infrastructure.
Understanding of fundamental networking concepts.
Knowledge of various RPC protocols like gRPC etc desirable.
Experience in C/C++ and javascript programming language.
Experience with code repositories like git/subversion and build systems. Knowledge of the Makefile system is highly desirable.
Strong in Computer Science fundamentals, Algorithms and Data Structures
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
Self-starter takes initiative & ownership, identifies and completes tasks; goal driven
Ability to work with remote/offshore teams, handle multiple tasks, prioritize and meet deadlines

The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations and could be higher or lower based on a multitude of factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
The base salary range listed for this full-time position excludes commission/ bonus/ equity (if applicable) + benefits.
