The Software Systems Engineering team is responsible for defining SW development processes and ensuring that all safety-critical software meets a high safety bar for production vehicles.

In this role, you will help Zoox define testing and validation strategies for safety-critical software that will revolutionize transportation in the 21st century. Borrowing principles from avionics, automotive, and other safety-critical industries, you will work with software engineers, systems engineers, test and validation engineers across Zoox focusing on domains like state-of-the-art AI Perception, all the way to highly-critical embedded software.

Responsibilities

    • Lead the process of ensuring that verification and validation efforts are aligned with expectations of industry safety standards such as ISO-26262 
    • Collaborate with test and validation teams, evaluate current testing approaches, test tools and assets
    • Identify the scope, advantages and limitations of the various testing approaches
    • Strategize how to achieve complete, end-to-end test coverage for all safety critical functionality
    • Create or review test plans put together by Systems and Software teams
    • Coordinate with Systems, Software, Infrastructure and Tools teams to plan, build & maintain test tools and test assets
    • Define, document and evangelize consistent testing terminology, tools and processes across teams

Qualifications

    • Advanced degree in robotics, computer engineering, electronics engineering, aerospace engineering or related fields
    • 5+ years of industry experience in robotics, autonomous vehicles, aerospace, automotive or related mission-critical fields
    • Experienced in creating and reviewing test cases and procedures in Python, C++
    • Developed test cases and procedures for different testing methods (For eg. SIL testing, HIL testing, integrated system testing, vehicle testing, etc.)
    • Developed and managed systems and software test tools, test assets, test specifications, dependency tracker, etc. 
    • Working knowledge of automated test frameworks (e.g., Pytest, Gtest), Jira, svn/git and Continuous Integration systems
    • Working knowledge of standard systems engineering tools (Polarion, DOORS, JAMA, SysML, etc.)
    • Working knowledge of test case management tools like TestRail.
    • Familiarity with ECU architecture in automobiles, automotive communication interfaces or automotive software architectures, etc.

Bonus Qualifications

    • Shipped software products to market in production automobiles, aircraft, spacecraft or other systems that require safety-critical software in embedded hardware
    • Experience with interpreting industry safety standards such as ISO26262 and DO-178
    • Experience with interpreting and fulfilling industry standards in vehicle automation such as NCAP, SAE, FMVSS, ISO-TC204-standards (ITS), IIHS etc
