Description
The Sound & Voice team at Zoox is responsible for defining and developing our robot's audio system performance and all microphone and speaker functions.  In order to maximize the uptime of our vehicles, the team is also developing the capability to use data from vehicle sensors and CAN information to monitor and predict the vehicle’s health.  Our team has a collaborative culture marked by openness and risk-taking.  You’ll be part of a passionate team dedicated to making cities safer, smarter, and more sustainable.

Together with the team, you will develop the optimal sound and voice experience for our riders while making significant contributions to the development of a fully-autonomous vehicle fleet.  This is an opportunity to apply your passion for acoustics to a broad range of applications for our fleet of vehicles.  If you like to work with teams of world-class engineers with diverse backgrounds in robotics, controls, and vehicle engineering, we would like to hear from you.

Responsibilities

    • You will lead the development and achievement of sound and voice performance targets
    • You will define vehicle-level targets and cascade requirements to system teams
    • You will execute objective and subjective evaluations of sound and voice systems
    • You will conduct electroacoustic tests to optimize voice and audio quality
    • You will investigate proposed designs, conduct root cause analysis, and develop countermeasures for sound and voice systems

Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
    • A minimum of 5 years of automotive or related telecommunications development experience
    • Hands-on experience with vehicle-level telephony testing, instrumentation, and data acquisition methodologies
    • Knowledge of vehicle systems, including audio, hands-free communication, and electrical
    • Excellent understanding of digital signal processing and telecommunication systems

Bonus Qualifications

    • Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
    • Experience with test equipment and data analysis software (HEAD Acoustics ACQUA, Audio Precision, Test.lab, etc.)
    • Familiarity with data analytics and machine learning techniques
    • Experience in acoustic beam-forming techniques
    • Experience programming in Python and scripting in MATLAB

Compensation

    • There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $155,000 to $255,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
