Senior Engineering Project Manager

About the Role  

At Wind River Software, we’re looking for an experienced Project Manager with strong skills in Agile to help transition our existing work practices to a more modern techniques, including fulling embracing Agile and other newer tools and technologies, from the top down. In this role you will mentor and guide our Scrum teams in how to develop our product software more efficiently and predictably, taking full ownership for their deliverables. In addition, you will analyze our organization’s existing infrastructure workflow and work with our teams to implement improvements to help streamline processes and create efficiencies. Ultimately, the Project Manager will play a key role in implementing our long-term product strategy across the business, guiding our teams to deliver high quality releases on time with all planned content.   

   

Objectives of this Role:   

  • Facilitate learning and development among employees through individual and team coaching
  • Coach senior managers and over twenty delivery teams in the tactics of how to incorporate agile and other relevant methodologies into existing development workflow to ensure adoption of best practices from the top down
  • Analyze current workflow practices and processes across the organization, and recommend specific changes and adaptations of development methodologies that align with product management and customer requirements, and coach managers and teams in making suggested changes
  • Ensure we are using best practices and methodologies that will result in meeting our commitments to product management and customers, while delivering consistently high-quality releases
  • Champion the use of metrics and other objective measures by teams, recommendation of specific tools to facilitate creation of easy-to-understand dashboards showing continuous progress towards metrics and milestones
  • Educate product management and field teams on new processes, tools and methodologies as they evolve
  • Undertake daily follow-ups with individual team members to ensure projects are on track and goals are being met
  • Maintain objectivity regarding issues and how to troubleshoot them by applying agile principles
  • Facilitate stand-up meetings with cross-functional teams to review project status
  • Support teams in determining resource allocations to maintain agile-friendly practices and ensure smooth project delivery
  • Coordinate with program manager and engineering directors to understand shifting priorities and ensure delivery teams are executing to those priorities and new customer direction
  • Coordinate with Program Manager, Engineering and PV managers, and the field to regularly analyze defect escapes and key customer escalations and recommend process and workflow changes to reduce likelihood of recurrence in future patches and releases

   

Responsibilities:   

  • Work with project teams to analyze current systems and processes and design a strategy for adopting industry best practices, with agile orientation
  • Work with program management to prepare lean business cases, feature canvases, feature specifications, and feature performance dashboards
  • Provide guidance and recommendations in transitioning to improved methodologies, adapting to unique nature of products, industry expectation sand existing product management processes and requirements
  • Assist development teams in understanding tactics to apply agile and other methodologies, processes, and artifacts
  • Coordinate with program management to jointly prepare management reports and presentations, creating and utilizing new tools to automate the extraction of progress towards metrics and milestones to create up-to-date collateral with little notice that can be utilized in existing program and roadmap reviews
  • Prepare standard project documentation such as Standard Operating Procedures, define requirements and scope documents with PLM and architects, and define roles and responsibilities for the development teams
  • Understand product quality issues with each release, including customer escalations, and work with management, program management, field support teams and scrum teams to implement changes to prevent such defect escapes in the future
  • Collaborate with other project leads to ensure resources are fully utilized
  • Mentor and train scrum team leaders with less experience in overall processes and leadership
  • Work with each team to help them plan and prepare the plan for the delivery of their POX commitments
  • Monitor progress against POX commitments and report status to management and the Program Manager
  • Take lead role in tracking scrum team performance, immediately recognizing underperforming scrum teams, then understanding cause(s) of lower velocity and helping them implement changes to quickly bring performance up to acceptable levels
  • Identify and report risks and impediments during planning and execution, and suggestion contingency plans when appropriate
  • Support multiple development teams in the execution of the Scrum/Workroom process.
  • Ensure that all Scrum teams are correctly executing the Scrum/Workroom process, including holding all Scrum ceremonies
  • Schedule and lead the Scrum Ceremonies as needed across multiple teams (stand-ups, backlog grooming, sprint planning, sprint reviews, etc.), coordinating with the Program Manager on priorities
  • Schedule and lead, at the development team level, sprint & POX planning in support of the team being responsible for their own plan, until they are able to do that on their own
  • Monitor, report, and help resolve impediments identified during stand-up meetings

   

Requirements:   

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience as a Scrum Master, including Scrum Master certification.
  • 8+ years of hands-on IT project management experience with a complete understanding of the development lifecycle.
  • 8+ years of experience working effectively with senior management and business stakeholders within a cross-functional matrix environment.
  • Experience in using scrum, kanban, and scaled agile frameworks, such as LeSS and/or SAFe

Compensation  

The annual base salary range for this role’s listed grade level is currently $150,000 to $200,000 plus bonus for residents in the states of Colorado, New York and New Jersey; and $171,000 to $230,000 plus bonus for residents in the states of California and Washington, and the NYC area. Salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of education, experience, knowledge, skills, location and abilities of the applicant, and equity with other team members. Employees in this role are also eligible for the following benefits in accordance with the terms of the Company's plans: health, dental, vision insurance, life insurance, flex time off, eligibility to enroll in 401k, 12 paid holidays.
