About this role
At Waymark, the engineering challenges we face are related to building products and infrastructure that enable care delivery teams (community health workers, social workers, pharmacists, and care coordinators) to support patients facing major health challenges.
As an Software Engineer, you will be developing the patient relations management system, data science infrastructure, and associated pipelines and products that are necessary to transform healthcare eligibility and claims data into an environment that allows our care workers to communicate with each other and with patients, apply data science tools (both structured machine learning and reinforcement learning algorithms) that help us select which patients to outreach to and which interventions to select for them, and work closely with both operations and data science teams to build new automations, efficiencies, and healthcare improvement programs to help address healthcare disparities. You will be creatively tasked with problem-solving around diverse types of problems, from how to improve the detection of patterns in healthcare notes using natural language processing, to identifying how to properly direct a healthcare worker to a homeless patient based on real-time ADT (admit / discharge / transfer) feeds identifying when our patient has arrived in an emergency room. You will be expected and encouraged to develop new projects, creatively working with the Product, Design, and Care Operations teams to understand the services being delivered and the key IP being developed to more efficiently and effectively deliver those services.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with product, design, care delivery team members, and fellow engineers to deeply understand the services we are providing and how to best solve the problems we face, test hypotheses, and operationalize and act on experiments.
- Develop and maintain software including a patient relations manager, data pipelines and data science algorithms used to identify and match patients to interventions, and multiple diverse integrations.
- Guide the development of the appropriate selection of platforms and services to address our technical challenges, with a focus on improving service delivery efficiency (e.g., through automation) and recouping value from data science (e.g., by helping to incorporate machine learning insights into our Patient Relationship Manager).
Minimum qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in Software Engineering.
- Excellent skills in communication and collaboration with technical and non-technical audiences
- Track record of positive reviews from fellow engineers, product and design colleagues.
- Able to quickly understand complex data and business processes in healthcare industry and translate into meaningful solutions
- Comfortable working with new technology and fast-paced changing environment
- Proficient in Typescript, React, Node.js, Next.js, and Python
- Comfortable working with various AWS services and infrastructure.
- Comfortable working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL
Preferred qualifications
- In-depth knowledge of healthcare eligibility and claims data, FHIR interoperability standards, HIPAA compliance, and HITRUST and SOC2 requirements.
- Strategic mindset for learning and incorporating new healthcare technologies and data tools (e.g., Amazon HealthLake, Zus, Commure) as relevant and necessary.
- Experience leading multiple projects designing, building, and/or running software engineering projects
- Early-stage start-up experience.
Salary Range: $97,750.00 - $149,500.00 Compensation will depend on multiple factors, including job location, training, education, and experience.
Benefits and Other Compensation: Medical, vision, dental, basic life insurance, and stock options available for the hired applicant. Employees also receive twenty (20) vacation days, accrued over the year and eleven (11) paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Sixteen (16) weeks of parental leave for birthing parents will also be available for use after successful completion of six (6) months of employment, eight (8) weeks of bonding leave for non-birthing parents. Employees are able to enroll in our 401(k) plan and commuter benefits plan.
