Position: Software Engineer III

Job Location: 860 W. California Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94086

Duties: Design, write, and build tools to improve the reliability, latency, availability and scalability of Walmart e-commerce, retail, and Enterprise products. Engender reliability and availability starting with metrics and measurements. Enable scaling by providing tools and developing training and/or augmenting processes. Build and automate tools to prevent re-occurrence of problems to mission critical products/services. Augment existing instrumentation to build a cohesive picture of the characteristics of our systems with special attention to points of failure. Participate in capacity planning, demand forecasting, software performance analysis, and system tuning. Develop a deep understanding of the numerous services and applications that come together to deliver Walmart e-commerce, retail, and Enterprise products. Design new tools to monitor and smart alerts that help discover failures/issues in a timely fashion. Work with engineers to identify root cause and fix issues. Influence, design, and create new architectures, standards, and methods for large-scale enterprise systems. Participate in root-cause analysis of complex problems involving multiple parties, networks, hardware, and software that relate to scaling and performance. Participate in on-call rotation. Secure the system from issues. Collect and infer metrics.

Minimum education and experience required: Master’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering (any), or a related field. Position does not require specific years of experience but requires listed skills.

Skills required: Experience with containerization and container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, Docker EE, OpenShift, and Mesosphere). Experience coding in object-oriented programming languages (C++, Python, and Java). Experience with database systems (ElasticSearch, BigQuery, MongoDB, and SQL). Experience with REST APIs and tools including Postman. Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Saltstack, Chef, and Puppet). Experience troubleshooting using Linux command line tools and networking concepts. Experience with the Agile process to share progress, gauge status, and identify gaps. Experience using Git or Bitbucket. Experience tracking progress on various tasks using JIRA. Employer will accept any amount of graduate coursework, graduate research experience or professional experience with the required skills.

Salary Range: $184,662/year to $234,000/year. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance incentives.   Additional compensation for certain positions may also include: Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) (based on location) and Stock equity incentives.
