PRINCIPAL, SOFTWARE ENGINEER

Position Summary...

Drives the execution of multiple business plans and projects by identifying customer and operational needs; developing and communicating business plans and priorities; removing barriers and obstacles that impact performance; providing resources; identifying performance standards; measuring progress and adjusting performance accordingly; developing contingency plans; and demonstrating adaptability and supporting continuous learning. About Team

Site Reliability and Engineering group focuses on producing mission-critical infrastructure, tools, and processes that will ensure highest levels of availability and reliability of all our websites.

SRE’s drives standardization and service focused instrumentation, provides subject matter expertise, resolves break/fix scenarios, engaging broader teams as necessary; and partners/leads to achieve continuous improvement. In addition SRE’s contributes to command-and-control related activities focused on restoration of complex outages, and rapid restoration.

Site Reliability Engineers are hybrid systems and software engineers who are responsible and take ownership for reliability, scalability, automation, and other issues related to uptime and availability of Walmart’s e-commerce/Retail and Enterprise platform. Our goal is to build, scale and guard the systems that delights the customers.

You are right for the job if you are comfortable with System design, Architecture, deep technical Linux, networking topics, and distributed architectures. You will work cross-functionally amongst a variety of teams and be a core contributor in every significant engineering service or solution that we deliver to our stakeholders. You will excel if you have enthusiasm for digging deep, and a flare for sharp technical communication, prioritization, and organization. You will work directly with our Software Engineering teams to build our next generation “always up” cloud-based e-commerce/Retail and Enterprise platform.

Walmart Global Tech is looking for Senior Engineering Manager-II with Java / Golang application development experience to build several new and exciting products. This person has a strong background in front-end and back-end knowledge for customer facing web and mobile applications. Manage/Mentor a team of High Performing Software engineers and Engineering Managers to Lead end-to-end SRE practices for large-scale, applications. Provide leadership and technical skills to implement strategy, processes and standard methodologies that improve the application performance, availability and resiliency Understand how all of the system software ecosystem work together and develop Observability best practices to fit the overall organizational strategy Help define Technical Roadmap and own the various SRE product delivery end to end. Ability to define and drive various Operational Excellence measures across teams Hands on experience in debugging, troubleshooting and root-causing issues across complex distributed applications. Work very closely with various stakeholders to drive the execution of implementation plans, go-live plans, business events, etc. Technical Leadership: Drive high-level architectural decisions and designs based on business priorities and requirement Attract, hire, and mentor SREs Improve, optimise and identify opportunities for efficient software development processes Promote and support company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity Provide mentoring and development opportunities for associates. Move the team from a project mindset to a product mindset both in planning and delivery

What you’ll bring

An Engineering Degree - B.E/B.Tech/MS in any stream – Computer Science preferred. 15+ years of relevant experience with the following skills

Strong Java/ Golang development track record

A good understanding of CS Fundamentals, Data Structures, Algorithms and Problem Solving

Write and review code as per demands of SRE product delivery

Experience with containerisation and container platforms. (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Docker EE, OpenShift, Mesosphere). Experience with enterprise monitoring solutions like AppDynamics, New Relic, Prometheus, Graphite, Grafana, Nagios, Sensu and Splunk  Experience in designing, investigating, analysing, and troubleshooting large-scale enterprise systems.  Methodical and systematic problem-solving approach, combined with a solid awareness of ownership, initiative, and drive.  Networking knowledge and in depth understanding of network concepts, such as different protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, etc.), MAC addresses, IP packets, DNS, OSI layers, and load balancing).  Understanding of Unix/Linux systems from kernel to shell and beyond, taking in system libraries, file systems, and client-server protocols along the way. Experience administering Linux systems in a production environment.   Experience with distributed version control like Git or similar  Experience with IaaS and PaaS providers such as AWS, AZURE OpenStack, GCP  Familiarity with continuous integration/deployment processes and tools such as Jenkins, Maven, Nexus, etc.,  Experience across product development & SDLC Understand the product and project management space with Agile methodologies.
