We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Data Lakes to join our team and help us achieve our ambitious goals for our business and the planet.

What you will contribute:

You will be the technical leader within the Platform Analytics team to design and build Uplight’s Data Lake to make all Uplight data accessible, available, and secure in order to accelerate our mission of helping our customers understand and reduce their energy usage and carbon footprint.

What you get to do:

  • Architect, design, and help build out Uplight’s big data infrastructure
  • Partner with developers both in North America and India to get your vision built and maintained
  • Collaborate closely with Product and other stakeholders across the company to ensure that the right data is stored and is usable by different functions
  • Take problems from inception all the way to completion - own the building, testing, deployment, and maintenance of the code that you work on
  • Work effectively on an Agile team and collaborate well with your other team members and members of the other Platform Analytics teams.
  • Mentor junior team members

What you bring to Uplight:

  • You are an accomplished developer with 8+ years of experience who has spent at least some of that time designing, developing, and optimizing scalable and sustainable Data Lake/Data Warehouse solutions. 
  • Defining and running a greenfield software project is exciting to you and you are comfortable seeing it through. You will bring your past experience with big data and data pipelines (ETL/ELT) to process large amounts of data. 
  • People who will succeed in this role also have experience with some data processing technologies (we use Airflow, Spark, and Databricks). 
  • Uplight uses GCP, so prior experience building in the cloud (GCP, AWS, or Azure) is important. Uplight’s language of choice is Python and you will likely also need to leverage other technologies in your job such as FastAPI, SQL/NoSQL databases, Terraform, and CI/CD tools. 
  • This role will be highly collaborative, so the ideal candidate is someone who is excited about all things data and analytics and a desire to work cross-functionally with data scientists and data engineers. 

Bonus Points:

  • Previous utility and/or energy data experience
  • Knowledge of Java and Scala

Salary Range: $150,000 to $180,000

In accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the approximate annual base compensation range is listed above. The actual offer, reflecting the total compensation package and benefits, will be determined by a number of factors including the applicant's experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity among our team.
