Position Summary
To help support our continued growth, we are looking for a Senior Database Engineer with AWS experience to expand our Technology team. You will be part of an Agile team and ensure that our databases are performant, resilient, and monitored. You will partner with developers and SREs across the engineering organization to solve database related issues, both in development and production.
What you'll be doing:
- Assisting at every step of the architectural design and development lifecycle of new services and making them operate at scale
- Scale and optimize performance via schema design, query tuning, and index creation
- Build highly available, scalable, fault-tolerant infrastructure leveraging both AWS RDS and DynamoDB
- Leverage continuous build and deployment tools and practices
- Perform monitoring, backup, and automation
- Investigate and triage technical issues with databases, storage, and networks in production environments
- Ensure accurate documentation exists for all services and solutions
- Ensure established RPO and RTO metrics are met or exceeded, with supporting reports or dashboards
- Be innovative: Implement solutions in response to new or existing business objectives and timelines
- Optimize existing code and design indexes to improve Application Performance.
- Perform scheduled maintenance and release deployment activities.
- Maintain database Standard and Security as defined at the Enterprise level. Expert understanding of role, profile, grants, and privileges, providing and setting up DB access at a different level for different groups of users.
You have:
- Strong experience working with MySQL Workbench or other UI tools to manage and tune databases
- Experience in Database Administration, Configuration, Installation, Architecture Design, and Troubleshooting of MySQL
- Design and Implement High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies
- Experience configuring cloud resources with Infrastructure as Code (IaC, Terraform)
- Working knowledge of database table partitioning techniques and processes.
- Exposure to ETL processes and data pipelines for “update the masterfile” systems
- Strong understanding of database encryption technologies, database structures, principles and best practices.
- Experience working with cross functional and remote teams
- Self-driven and resourceful to achieve goals independently as well as work well in groups
It's a Bonus if you have...
- Experience working with SRE/Operations/DevOps teams
- Experience working with Redshift, AWS Athena, MongoDB
- Experience with shell and scripting languages used in an SRE/Operations engineering context (Python, Bash, etc.)
- Experience with benchmarking tools such as Sysbench
- History of automating tasks and processes, identifying process gaps and finding automation opportunities
- Experience with monitoring/search tools such as Elasticsearch, Kibana, Grafana, NewRelic
Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience as a Database engineer and 2+ years on the AWS Cloud platform
