Helix by HL, a division of TIFIN, is the first-of-its-kind generative AI assistant for the private markets industry and is set to redefine the landscape of alternative investment innovation. It combines TIFIN's technological expertise with Hamilton Lane's industry-leading database that draws on more than $16.7 trillion in private market commitments across 51 vintage years, along with an expansive library of expert, research-based market analysis, as of September 30, 2023. Helix provides data-centric information around private markets benchmarking, forecasting, and diligence and will help educate private wealth investors and their intermediaries on the asset class and current trends within the private markets.

Helix was recently funded by FINTOP capital in a Seed+ round as of December 2023.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join this recently funded generative AI start-up set to redefine how financial advisors and other wealth managers interact with and execute alternative investment strategies with their clients. As a Senior Data Engineer at Helix, you will report straight to our CTO and will be an integral part of the team as a high-impact individual contributor in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate has experience building data pipelines in AWS and is passionate about innovating in the fintech and AI space. We are looking for a creative thinker who can be hands-on with early-stage projects building 0-1.

You must be a motivated and tenacious self-starter who is comfortable interpreting technology requirements, based on business requirements, and implementing them with maximum impact on the users. You will be expected to develop technology that minimizes technical debt while maximizing the customer experience. This is a high-impact role on a lean team that is results-and execution-oriented. We are a team of do-ers!

THE ROLE:

• Participate in architectural, design, and product sessions and be a crucial part of the decision-making process on overall technology direction
• Work closely with Product, Design, and other Devs to build customer-facing features
• Design a scalable target state architecture for data processing based on document content (Data types may include, but are not limited to: DOC, PDF, XLS, JPEG, TIFF, and PPT) including PII/CII handling, policy-based hierarchy rules, and metadata tagging
• Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data used in GenAI applications and RAG data pipelines in particular
• Design and implement vector databases to efficiently store and retrieve high-dimensional vectors
• Implement data quality and validation checks to ensure accuracy and consistency of data
• Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks and issues
• Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
• Work with stakeholders, including the Executive, Product, Data, and Design teams, to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs
• Manage technical optimization for maximum speed and scalability
• Help shape company and engineering culture as an early-stage hire

WHO YOU ARE:

• Degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of increasing responsibility in backend and data engineering roles 
• Real-world experience developing highly scalable solutions designed to democratize data to everyone in an organization
• Strong coding skills in Python
• Experience with Terraform is desirable
• Experience working with Machine Learning and AI concepts related to RAG architecture, LLMSs, embedding, and data insertion into a Vector data store is desirable 
• Experience designing and building ETL pipelines with document-based data
• Expertise in various big data technologies, both open source and cloud-native, AWS preferred (Kinesis, Athena, PySpark, Airflow)
• Ability to work comprehensively with various databases (Postgres, SQL, MongoDB, Pinecone, etc.)
• Expertise in data model design with sensitivity to usage patterns and goals – schema, scalability, immutability, idempotency, etc.
• Track record of choosing the proper transit, storage, and analytical technology to simplify and optimize the user experience
• Ability to thrive in a highly demanding, entrepreneurial, and fast-paced environment 
• Highly flexible, good tolerance for ambiguity, and able to quickly adapt to changing priorities
• A top performer with a proactive approach who has a “doer” & problem-solver mentality 
• An exceptional team player with strong communication skills
• A local presence in Denver, Boulder, or New York is preferred

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS PACKAGE:

For Colorado Applicants: The expected starting salary range for this position in Colorado is between $120,000 - $180,000. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
