Description

A home is the biggest investment most people make, and yet, it doesn’t come with a manual. That's why we’re building the only app homeowners need to effortlessly manage their homes —  knowing what to do, when to do it, and who to hire. With Thumbtack, millions of people care for what matters most, and pros earn billions of dollars through our platform. And as one of the fastest-growing companies in a $600B+ industry — we must be doing something right.

We are driven by a common goal and the deep satisfaction that comes from knowing our work supports local economies, helps small businesses grow, and brings homeowners peace of mind. We’re seeking people who continually put our purpose first: advocating for pros and customers, embracing change, and choosing teamwork every day.

At Thumbtack, we're creating a new era of home care. If making an impact and the chance to do good inspires you, join us. Imagine what we’ll build together.

  • 80 million projects started on Thumbtack
  • 10 million 5-star reviews and counting
  • Pros earn billions on our platform
  • 1000+ employees
  • $3.2 billion valuation (June, 2021)

About the Growth Team

The Customer Acquisition, Growth, and Engagement team (CAGE) is focused on streamlining and innovating around the new and returning user experience for Thumbtack. By adding value for users and meeting their needs, we can activate them as first time customers and convince them to return to Thumbtack to help solve future problems by ensuring their experience was a good one.

We accomplish this by focusing both on getting the fundamentals right around core experiences like login and auth, as well as by building new features that allow us to better understand user needs early in their journey to get them to the right place.

Challenge

Many of the sorts of changes we’re making are unproven, and as a data driven company, we prefer to run experiments that vet our hypotheses. As an engineer, balancing places we can be scrappy to test ideas quickly  vs places we need to take more care to exercise engineering rigor and build things the right way is important. Given we have cross functional teams, if you like looking at user problems from a product or design perspective, you’ll be a great fit for this.

Additionally, we have one other iOS engineer on the team, so it may take being a bit deliberate about building community with iOS engineers across teams if you prefer larger iOS teams.

Responsibilities

  • Drive iOS feature projects to completion, focusing on the business and customer impact of those projects

  • Break down large projects into concrete deliverables and milestones that make it easy to track progress

  • Work closely with back-end engineers, product managers, designers, data analysts, and other teams to gather feedback, prioritize projects, and deliver solutions

  • Communicate project status to stakeholders, proactively raising potential blockers and other risks

  • Explore new frameworks and processes while also being able to discuss when (or when not) to use them

  • Participate in a culture that values thoughtful code reviews and frequent deployments

What you’ll need

If you don't think you meet all of the criteria below but still are interested in the job, please apply. Nobody checks every box, and we're looking for someone excited to join the team.

  • Passionate iOS engineer with experience building, testing, releasing, and maintaining apps written in Swift or Objective-C.

  • Proven track record of shipping consumer-facing apps that users love on the App Store.

  • Cross-functional collaboration and communication. We’re moving quickly, so it’s important for our engineers to communicate their status regularly, proactively bring up potential blockers and risks, and keep our cross-functional partners in the loop.

Bonus points if you have

  • Experience with libraries, frameworks, and services like SwiftUI, GraphQL, and/or Apollo.
