Position Summary

Harbinger Oncology is seeking a highly motivated, talented and detail-oriented laboratory automation engineer to join our automation engineering team to support research & clinical laboratories. The successful candidate will enable true walk-away automation of cfDNA extraction and library preparation for next generation sequencing. This candidate will also be responsible for validating the transition of bench-based protocols to automation platform, create new liquid handling methods as well as optimize and modify existing ones.  Develop and run monthly QCs to ensure instrument’s spec performance.  Troubleshoot and support in-house robotic systems.

Key responsibilities

  • Enable implementation of novel methods on the liquid handling platforms across research and clinical laboratories
  • Responsible for optimization of screening assays on automated platforms
  • Suggest technical improvements and assay miniaturization opportunities
  • Train laboratory techs on robotic systems & oversee proper use and compliance
  • Act as first line of defense for automation support and troubleshooting needs
  • Assist with implementation of automated workflows and sample tracking
  • Coordinate experimental design and testing of bench-based protocols on automated platforms
  • Perform monthly QCs on liquid handling platforms
  • Continually seek out new technologies to aid in workflow optimization

Qualifications

  • BS, MS in Engineering discipline (Bio, Biomedical or Mechanical) with 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • BS, MS in Molecular Biology with 2+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Experience with running, designing, programming, validating and implementing into production of laboratory liquid handling methods on Hamilton platform to increase throughput, accuracy and true walk-away automation
  • Experience running and automating in-vitro assays
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and a self-starter who continuously seeks to improve existing laboratory methods and processes.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as a part of the team.
  • Familiar with LIMS sample tracking.
  • Knowledge of molecular biology techniques.
  • Demonstrates problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Hamilton liquid handling platforms.
  • In-depth understanding of liquid class parameter optimization.
  • Experience with GitHub (or similar) & database structures.
