Description

What if… you could join an organization that is discovering and developing an entirely new class of medicines, one that leverages both chemistry and biology, to overcome many of the challenges faced by current therapeutics today?

Company Summary:

Flagship Labs 83, Inc. (FL83) is a privately held, early-stage biotechnology company on a mission to make biology better through chemistry. We are pioneering the development of a transformational new class of medicines, called Artificial Biologics™, that is unlocked by novel synthetic and computational technologies. We seek an exceptional Senior Research Software Engineer to join our entrepreneurial and innovation-driven organization.

FL83 was founded in Flagship Pioneering’s venture creation engine, where companies such as Moderna Therapeutics (NASDAQ: MRNA) and Generate Biomedicines were conceived and created. Since Flagship’s founding in 2000, the firm has originated and fostered the development of more than 100 scientific ventures resulting in over $34 billion in aggregate value, more than 500 issued patents and more than 50 clinical trials for novel therapeutic agents.

The ideal candidate will have experience applying state-of-the-art machine learning and computational methods to guide the generation and application of unique peptides and protein design. A successful candidate will be an excellent collaborator working closely to support our Computational Platform as well as coordinate the Development and Biology teams to integrate computational approaches in their everyday workflow.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate on the development of computational methods to predict and understand how peptide and protein structure impacts biologically relevant properties. You will use and support both modern machine learning methods and classical computational approaches.
  • Prototyping APIs, writing beautiful code and ensuring a great user experience for the tools you create.
  • Working in a collaborative CI/CD software development environment, including use of git, participating in code reviews, and independent development of robust code.
  • Building and maintaining machine learning and data infrastructure.
  • Working within an entrepreneurial, collaborative, and interdisciplinary team to actively contribute to creating, shaping, and executing the vision of the company.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or Master's degree in bioinformatics, chemistry, physics, computer science, mathematics or related field and 4+ years of experience is required
  • Practical experience in Machine Learning models and Software Engineering
  • Proficient in Python, the PyData software stack, and modern Python practices (typing, asyncio, etc)
  • Experience with cloud computing (i.e. AWS) and data pipelining tools (i.e. Prefect, Dask, Nextflow, etc)
  • Expose to creation of Python-based front ends (Plotly Dash, Streamlit, Bokeh, etc)
