Position Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Bioinformatics Engineer who wants to leverage their technical skills to find new ways to treat human diseases. The candidate brings enthusiasm, intellectual curiosity, scientific rigor, and a deep-rooted desire to innovate. This role is based in the vicinity of Cambridge UK. All applicants will require permission to work in UK.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, and operate robust, scalable genomic data processing pipelines using Nextflow on AWS.
• Manage pipeline results using big data technologies (e.g. distributed databases).
• Manage pipeline-related assets to ensure that they are findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable.
• Apply best practices for version control, testing, and documentation.
• Ensure data quality and integrity by implementing and maintaining rigorous quality control and data validation procedures.
• Collaborate closely with platform scientists, data scientists, and data engineers to solve complex data processing and analysis challenges.
• Continuously improve processes and tools to accelerate data processing, analysis, and sharing.
• Stay informed on the latest advancements in genomics and bioinformatics fields to incorporate new methodologies into our pipeline.
• Collaborate and communicate proactively with relevant stakeholders across the company, in written and presentation formats.

Requirements:

• MSc or PhD or equivalent in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or similar discipline.
• 3-5plus years of post-graduate or industry experience developing high-throughput bioinformatic data processing pipelines.
• Experience in NGS mapping, variant calling and variant analysis preferred.
• Experience in bioinformatics workflow frameworks (NextFlow), version control systems (Git), Cloud (AWS preferred), and containers (Docker preferred).
• High level of proficiency in Python or equivalent and Linux.
• Proficient in database management and SQL.
• Appreciation of the cloud technologies available for data engineering.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a collaborative attitude.
• Self-starter with ability to work successfully in a matrix environment, prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, integrate cross-functional issues and balance competing priorities effectively.
• A high degree of energy, accuracy and attention to detail, and a passion for creating transformative medicines for patients with serious diseases.
