About the role

We are looking for people who are excited about frontend engineering and the challenges at a fast-paced startup. You will join Syndio at a critical moment, as we invest in our growing engineering teams to evolve the platform to meet increasingly complex user needs. Customer success hinges on high-quality platform and application development. Your hands-on expertise and mentorship on the frontend engineering team as they build scalable software solutions for our flagship product, Syndio PayEQ, and subsequent products will have a meaningful impact on helping companies achieve fairness in the workplace.

  • This role will contribute heavily to the buildout and iteration of Syndio's existing and emerging systems, powering an ever-expanding set of product offerings
  • Design, build, and iterate on our various products, helping shape the roadmap through iterative development cycles
  • Set and drive the architectural design and development objectives for our emerging suite of tools based on a flexible product roadmap
  • Review and develop architecture plans based on product-driven goals for both internal and external teams, ensuring our department's core engineering values remain a priority
  • Be a partner to product design team to focus and collaborate on design system, accessibility, and component library, etc
  • Keep up to date on modern technologies and trends and advocate for their inclusion within products when it makes sense
  • Analyze and evaluate existing solutions within the company and make decisions on whether to extend or refactor as needed
  • Work collaboratively with multiple agile teams to help deliver end-to-end products and features, seeing them through from conception to delivery
  • Provide technical leadership and help mentor engineering, QA, operations, and product staff to help define, document, evolve, and evangelize high engineering standards and best practices across multiple areas
  • Move quickly and intelligently - seeing technical debt as your nemesis
  • Play a pivotal role in informing the direction of our shared component library and strive towards consistent, responsive, and highly reusable components throughout our platform

About You

  • Extensive experience working with and leading frontend teams during complex projects and challenges
  • Expert-level experience of frontend technologies like JavaScript (React), CSS (Sass, SCSS), templating engines (TSX, JSX, etc), and build systems (Webpack)
  • Advanced experience working within an API (REST, GraphQL) driven single page application
  • Be seen as "the person" by team members - leading by example as a dedicated, flexible technologist who is always looking for the ideal, elegant solution to a problem while still making sure to partner effectively with other areas of the department and company
  • Well-versed in version control systems (Git)
  • You have strong working knowledge of current testing methodologies including unit testing and end-to-end testing. (We use Cypress for e2e etc.)
  • Extensive experience working on scalable and performant math heavy international systems
  • Experience working in and advocating for agile environments
  • Experience working within a collaborative, pair programming-driven engineering environment
  • You’re an expert in current trends and best practices in front-end architecture, including performance, security and usability. You’re able to mentor peers and lead based on this expertise.
  • Ideal candidates for this position should possess a keen mind for solving tough problems with the ideal solution, partnering effectively with various team members along the way
  • Should be personable, efficient, flexible and communicative, possess a strong desire to implement change, growth, and maturity, and have a passion and love for what you do
  • Be able to troubleshoot and diagnose issues quickly and effectively when they arise, bringing calm and rationality to tense situations and providing a clear path forward for team members across multiple areas of the department

  • 💰 Competitive Compensation. For this role our base salary is targeted at $165k - $195k per year. Final offer amounts are determined by factors such as experience and expertise. We take a geo neutral approach to compensation within the US, meaning that we pay based on job function and level, not location.

Interview overview

Below you'll find an outline of the interview plan for our Software Engineer position. Please note that this is what we expect the process to look like; we may ask you for supplemental information or require an additional step before making a final decision.

  • 30 min interview with a member of our Talent Team
  • 45 minute zoom interview with an Engineering Manager
  • A take-home assignment (This replaces live coding in further interviews)
  • Three video interviews with several team members (Technical Interview, Product & QA, and Backend Engineering) - 2.5 hours
  • Final interviews with principal engineer - 45 minutes
