Frontend Engineer - Onboarding

About the Onboarding Squad:

The team is responsible for building the framework for SumUp's sign-up and onboarding. You will be a member of an autonomous, cross-functional team that can take a critical part of our product journey and perfect it from concept to execution.

Our mission is to help our merchants onboard SumUp products as quickly and smoothly as possible. We’re responsible for delivering a platform that can be used to build registration flows and collect data from multiple points, to ensure our merchants can use all of our products according to regulatory compliance but without a cumbersome, long process. 

Team will build and own:

• Sign-Up Flow architecture;
• Onboarding related reusable frontend components;
• Dynamic form creation engine;
• A/B Experiments;

The team will also be busy with:

• Country by country onboarding flow rollout;
• Coaching other squads to build their product sign-ups;
• Constant communication with design, compliance, verification squads;

 

About the role & what you’ll do

As a Frontend Engineer - Onboarding, you'll be responsible for building sustainable web applications to enable smooth multi-platform and multi-product client registration and activation flows. In addition, you’ll prototype innovative solutions that help merchants experience SumUp’s value, build trust, enable personalised experiences and contribute to SumUp’s growth. Help us find the best way of onboarding our merchants through consecutive experiments and delivering a system that can scale globally.

• Work with a modern tech stack built using Typescript, React, Next.JS, and Jest, and we deploy to Vercel.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Design to bring exciting new features to our merchant-facing web applications.
• Follow UI design best practices to contribute to our component library Circuit UI, giving input to the open-source community and helping SumUppers build consistent features.
• Engage in code reviews as a way to collaborate with other software engineers.
• Help your team deliver business value, participating in product and engineering discussions and taking decisions related to the front-end.
• Engage with broader scopes like chapters and guilds to learn and promote our culture and practices.
• Master A/B testing and feature flags with Optimizely.

You’ll be great for this role if you have:

• 3+ years of experience as a front-end engineer.
• A good understanding of JavaScript and DOM-related concepts.
• Understand what can be decoupled and reused as a separate component.
• Experience in building web applications using React with TypeScript.
• Hands-on experience implementing UI designs.
• Willing to learn new things and advance in delivering a great user experience.
• Great verbal and written English communication skills.
• Care deeply about app performance, accessibility, and Engineering performance.
• Experience in running A/B tests.
