Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

The Payins Offline team owns all of Stripe’s most critical payment flows, with our platforms processing hundreds of billions of dollars in card payments and cash movement. Engineers on the team have the opportunity to expand the reach of Stripe’s global payments network, design and implement novel payment capabilities and tooling, deliver best-in-class reliability and performance and power new product experiences.

What you’ll do

As a full stack engineer within the Payins Offline team, you will have the opportunity to solve a broad range of challenging problems at scale. On a given day you might dive deep on the design and implementation of a new product or feature, collaborate with partners on a strategic project, or take tactical steps to measure and improve the experience for our merchants.

Responsibilities

  • Work on systems critical to Stripe’s current and future operation with responsibility for billions of dollars of payments volume
  • Design, build and maintain complex tooling that help support reconciliation for billions of dollars of payments volume
  • Seek to improve efficiency and data quality of the current system
  • Own solving problems end-to-end, in close collaboration with other engineers across numerous teams
  • Participate in on-call rotations, debug production issues across services and multiple layers of the tech stack
  • Improve engineering standards, tooling and processes
  • Contribute to the design and architecture of the next generation of Stripe systems, in order to meet the high growth needs of our customers for years to come
  • Partner with product leads to define and deliver novel products to improve the disputes/cost experience for Stripe merchants
  • Ensure our infrastructure is extensible, scalable, reliable and meets SLAs for both external and internal customers

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • You have a strong technical background, including 5+ years of experience building impactful products or systems at scale
  • You write high quality code. While we mostly operate in Typescript, Ruby and Java, language can be learned and we care much more about your general engineering skill than knowledge of a particular language or framework
  • You thrive in collaborative environments involving different stakeholders and subject matter experts
  • You effectively give and receive constructive feedback to/from peers and team members
  • You are empathetic with users, both internal and external, and strive to create a better experience for all customers

Preferred qualifications

    • You have familiarity with Stripe's products as a user, preferably having integrated our APIs with another system or product
    • You have domain knowledge in payments, reconciliation, fraud, or disputes
