Senior Firmware Engineer, Video Pipeline

Founded in 2018 by engineers from Stanford, Cisco Meraki, and Samsara, Spot AI is the fastest growing Video Intelligence company in the U.S. We are upending the $30 billion video surveillance market with an AI Camera System to help people at work create safer, smarter organizations. Who You Are:

You are an experienced, customer-focused video engineer and you enjoy collaborating with a small team of world-class engineers to solve complex problems at scale. You have worked in a start-up or high growth company and have shipped products into production. You have a solid understanding of how video processes work from ingestion through transcoding of content to enable the viewing of video on our dashboard. You find excitement in learning and working cross-functionally with customer teams, product and design to create credible and compelling customer solutions and experiences.  You enjoy mentoring junior engineers, actively participating in hiring processes, and taking ownership of key projects and deliverables, including working with leadership to accurately scope project timelines.  And, you find excitement in rapidly shipping products that deliver meaningful customer experiences.

What Excites You:

• Ownership and delivery of projects, including: 
• Building out and maturing our video processing pipeline on our IoT platform
• Building tools that analyze the performance of our video functionality, then collaborating with the team to design and develop tools that improve that performance
• Writing clean code that works and ships often to production
• Learning about customer problems and directly solving them with your work
• Designing and implementing video pipelines for embedded systems that scale
• Influencing project work using your knowledge and experience, including actively participating in technical scoping sessions
• Mentoring junior engineers and participating in hiring processes 
• Working at a rapidly growing early stage startup with significant impact on the company’s processes, culture, and product
• The chance to use, or to learn, languages like Rust and Go (these are technologies important to our backend)

What Gets Our Attention:

• 5+ years of experience with GStreamer or FFmpeg
• Experience with streaming technologies such as WebRTC, HLS, RTSP
• Experience with networking (NAT, nmap, WireShark, NetworkManager) & embedded Linux
• Examples of production code shipped to devices at scale that has resulted in strong customer satisfaction
• Experience shipping code written in Rust & Go is a strong plus

What’s In It For You:

• Base Salary Range: $155,000 - $205,000. Offered salary will be based on the offered candidate’s demonstrated attributes and competencies related to the role, as well as the offered candidate’s geographical location within the United States.  Your recruiting partner can share more details about the compensation range as it relates to your geography once your interview process has begun.
