Platform Infrastructure Engineer

The Role 

We are seeking a seasoned platform infrastructure engineer with expertise building and operating cloud infrastructure, to join our team building the tools and systems to provide an internal developer platform. You’ll join our cloud platform engineering team, bringing your expertise in infrastructure to bear as we design, implement, and manage the SPAN cloud system. You’ll work with other engineers including mobile, device firmware, and systems software in our broader software engineering group. Your infrastructure experience will help us build features and systems that helps our engineering teams deliver software and hardware products with high velocity, security and quality via automated testing and best-practices in our continuous deployment system and internal developer platform.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop CI/CD tools, pipelines and re-usable infrastructure-as-code.

• Work on the delivery of new and improved developer facing features for internal engineering teams.

• Collaborate with teams across the organization to gather requirements and participate in our agile development process to build systems.

• Participate in an on-call rotation focused on supporting and maintaining the systems we provide to the rest of the organization.

About You 

Required Qualifications

We are seeking a seasoned infrastructure engineer with several years demonstrating knowledge and experience in:

• 7+ years of experience designing and building cloud infrastructure, including at least some experience with Kubernetes & Terraform or equivalent infrastructure-as-code tools.

• Collaborating with engineers from multiple domains, to design secure, robust, scalable, and resilient systems.

• Extensively leveraging cloud provider managed systems, preferably AWS.

• Development and use of observability systems to improve overall system health and meantime to resolution of incidents. (Datadog, Grafana, PagerDuty, etc.)

• Collaborating with coworkers in a shared code base using industry standard tools and processes including source control, linting, and unit/smoke/end-to-end testing.

• A common scripting language (e.g. Python, shell scripting).

Bonus Qualifications

We would love to hire someone with experience working in one or more of the following areas:

• Internet of Things (IoT) products (e.g. AWS IoT, Google Cloud IoT, something homegrown) or other hardware component to the product.

• Designing and implementing CI/CD systems.

• Experience building an internal developer platform.

• Writing and maintaining CLI and Web UI services for internal developer use.

• Container based deployments.

• Automating and integration with hardware testing and lab systems.

• Experience writing and debugging Go, especially related to Kubernetes.

• Experience with rolling out SSO across an organization.

The U.S. base salary range for this position is $125,000 - $225,000 plus benefits, equity and variable compensation for Sales-related roles. This range represents SPAN’s good faith estimate of competitively-priced salary for the role based on national, real-time industry data from companies of a similar growth stage. This range reflects minimum and maximum new hire salaries for the role across US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by location and individual factors including relevant skills, experience and education or training. This range correlates to the relative level of the candidate we believe we need for the role and may require an adjustment for candidates of a different level.
