Staff Software Engineer, At Work

The Role

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join us in building a financial wellness benefits platform which is SoFi AtWork’s B2B2C offering.

On our team, you will be in the middle of it all – implementing new functionality, architecting our system, squashing bugs, maintaining the health of our code, and continually growing as an engineer. You will be involved in the entire product lifecycle, from ideation through building, testing, deploying, monitoring and supporting mission critical systems. You’ll face and solve a wide range of challenges: technical, product, and operational, shaping your personal growth and career along the way, as well as helping mold and grow the junior members of the team. This role offers the scope to influence technical direction, operational excellence across the org. 

What you’ll do:

• Lead the development and testing of system components/services, code and design reviews
• Manage projects and deliverables, and design, deploy and improve database solutions.
• Take initiative and produce timely results in a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environment
• Participate in shaping the technical architecture of the product
• Ensure that our codebase remains easy to change and is always shippable
• Understand the complexities of the legacy system and plan for remediation of tech debt.
• Help translate epics and user stories into technical solutions
• Deliver highly available and scalable services in a production environment
• Mentor other engineers, support the technical culture, and help grow the team
• Communicate with project leads, product managers and other software developers
• Consistently demonstrate extremely high levels of technical knowledge, ingenuity, and creativity. Develops and applies advanced technologies, engineering principles, theories, and concepts. Broad knowledge about the design and operation of systems outside of specialty.
• Generate ideas for new initiatives and technologies

What you’ll need:

• Bachelor’s Degree, ideally in a technical field, but we understand great engineers come from all sorts of different backgrounds and also consider relevant work experience
• 8+ years programming experience, ideally on a modern stack
• Our core stack is React / Spring / Kotlin / Java / PostgreSQL. 
• Experience with and affinity for a data-driven approach to engineering -- instrumentation, logging, tracing,  system and product dashboards.  
• Willingness to roll up your sleeves, collaborate with others and get stuff done
• Strong sense of responsibility; driving a project from inception to completion
• Affinity for solving problems and shipping impactful features, not polishing perfect code or architecture
• Experience working in a collaborative coding environment (and git specifically), refining designs together, writing tests, working through code reviews and managing pull requests

Nice To Have

• Full-stack engineering experience, or a willingness and passion to broaden your technical skill set
• Expertise with Reach, Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, CI/CD.
• Fintech/finance experience
• Technical leadership experience
