We’re hiring talented Senior Software Engineers that are passionate about using software-based approaches to solve complex infrastructure challenges and automate those solutions.  You’ll be part of the cloud engineering organization where we have a strong focus on using engineering and software practices to manage and scale our cloud infrastructure.  Working in cloud engineering, you’ll lead and contribute to initiatives aimed at scaling our infrastructure, process, systems, and automation.  You’ll build a deep understanding of Snowflakes service and use that knowledge, coupled with your infrastructure and cloud knowledge, to optimize and evolve our infrastructure reliability, availability, serviceability, and price/performance.

You’ll work with some of the brightest engineers in the valley. To be successful, you’ll need to be deeply technical and capable of holding your own with other strong peers.  You possess excellent communication, collaboration, and diplomacy skills. You have experience practicing infrastructure-as-code, including using tools like Terraform, Ansible. You’ll have strong software development fundamentals and skills. In addition, you’ll have strong systems knowledge and troubleshooting abilities.

If you love solving problems at scale, prefer to write scalable, reliable, and testable software to automate infrastructure management, are an ace troubleshooter, and are deeply technical, then this is the role for you!

You will work with our CSP vendors to correlate cloud infrastructure usage and spend to identify areas for cost optimization, and then work within the engineering organization to drive and directly implement the optimizations.

The ideal candidate is a software engineer who knows how to apply engineering principles to infrastructure and is business minded. You are a leader and team player with a transformational mindset. You are able to adapt seamlessly into the organization, technically savvy, able to work cross-functionally, and enjoy diving deep into a system to understand and optimize it.  You keep up with the major cloud providers' product offerings and have the hands-on expertise to design, deploy, and optimize cloud services.

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the Snowflake data platform and the cloud technologies it’s built on.
  • Identify bottlenecks and/or improvements in our architecture, algorithms, infrastructure, and other areas that will improve efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Develop and/or identify strategies to efficiently use and optimize cloud technologies and services.
  • Analyze data patterns deriving insights to inform and influence architecture and technology decisions and present solutions to engineering and product leadership.
  • Work with our cloud vendors to identify changes, alternative implementations, and drive new features that will drive cost savings and/or increase efficiency.
  • Drive projects/technical initiatives and architectural/service improvements.
  • Implement cost optimization improvements for our infrastructure on AWS, Azure, and GCP.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Passion for optimization and curiosity to deeply understand how systems work.
  • Hands-on expertise to design, deploy and optimize cloud services
  • Software development background and demonstrated proficiency in at least one of the following: Python, Go, or Java
  • Deep understanding and proficiency with common IaaS services from AWS and/or Azure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced organization
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in a cloud native business
  • Experience optimizing cloud expenditure and architectures preferably in AWS
