Software Engineer

Snap Lab is home to our hardware products with a world-class research & development team. We are focused on pushing the boundaries of what a camera can be, specifically overlaying computing on the real world. Next Generation Spectacles are our first pair of glasses that bring augmented reality to life. At WaveOptics we design, develop and manufacture revolutionary Augmented Reality (AR) optical engines (waveguides and projector components) to provide the displays for our Spectacles.

We’re looking for a Software Engineer to join the computation team at Snap Inc! 

What you’ll do: 

• Increase the scalability of our tools, by developing and improving a cloud architecture optimised for our softwares.

• Develop high performance code using C++ & have the freedom to work autonomously within a multidisciplinary team who are developing software tools to model the behaviour of complex optical systems.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Good understanding of mathematics - including linear algebra, statistics and probability.

• Strong numerical analysis and algorithmic development skills.

• Analytical and methodical approach. 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in computer science, physics, mathematics, electronics or similar.

• 5+ years of experience working in software development.

• Strong C++ coding background

• Good understanding of either the AWS or the Google Cloud ecosystem, with an emphasis on compute capabilities

• Experience using Kubernetes and setting up custom load balancers

• Experience in creating and maintaining microservices architectures, and making them available to scripting users

Preferred Qualifications:

• PhD in computer science, physics, mathematics, electronics or similar.

• Working knowledge of Python or similar scripting language

• Experience with multithreading, GPU computing or multiprocessing APIs

• Basic understanding of both geometric and wave optics, including diffraction and polarisation.

• Experience parallelising computational problems to massive scale (local or remote clusters)

• Experience developing low-level combined CPU+GPU code

• Good understanding of mathematics (focus on linear algebra and probability) and strong algorithmic skills.
