Applications Engineers at sensemetrics work with existing and new clients to enable their adoption of sensemetrics IoT technologies. Working in conjunction with sales and business development personnel as the key technical advisor and product advocate, the Senior Applications Engineer identifies and responds to client and market opportunities with well-crafted technical solutions. Successful candidates will have a passion for taking the complex and making it simple, building compelling technical and business approaches that ensure customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process.

The Work:

  • Maintain expert level of product knowledge and application for sensemetrics’ IIoT solution platform consisting of sensor connectivity hardware (THREAD), cloud edge computing, sensor data management and software
  • Clearly communicate sensemetics technology and product positioning to both business and technical users in Europe
  • Provide design and specification development support to sensor manufacturers, technical consultants, integrators, and value-adding resellers across Europe
  • Respond to functional and technical elements of RFIs/RFPs
  • Lead customer demo’s out of Munich (sensemetrics EU sensor connectivity application centre)
  • Assist customers in integrating sensemetrics products into their product environments over API and other methods
  • Provide application reports and customer specification requirements for platform customizations/developments to sensemetics’ developer team based in San Diego (CA)
  • Perform API based integrations of new devices and sensors to the sensemetrics platform to enable new commercial opportunities
  • Answer customer questions related to Company products, competitive products and technical issues related to product integration within the customers unique environment
  • Listen, understand and convey customer requirements
  • Perform technical/product training for salespeople, estimators, and engineers at targeted accounts
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of target accounts, opportunities, quotes, projects, contacts and correspondence in company approved databases
  • Travel to project sites to perform start-up, integration, and training services
  • Provide application, technical, installation and trouble-shooting consultation with customers, sales and Company departments (remote- and on-site support)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline (i.e. Electromechanical / communications engineering / computer science / mechanical engineering) – University of Applied Science (FH) or University (Univ),
  • Technical Field, or equivalent successful experience in a similar industry role (i.e. at a sensor manufacturer, IoT company or engineering consulting firm)
  • Work experience: 3–5 Years in application engineering with customer / user interaction
  • Demonstrable basic knowledge of object-oriented programming with a working knowledge of one or more common languages such as Python, C++, C, Java, Javascript, etc.
  • Familiarity with software development practices including approaches to design, implementation, testing, documentation, and debugging (further supported by sensemetrics development team)
  • Familiarity with Linux user and kernel environments
  • Proficient in standard office software suites such as MS Office, Google Docs, etc.
  • Ability to read architectural, mechanical and electrical blueprints and have a solid understanding of basic electrical and mechanical control systems
  • A solid understanding of network communications technology – Internet, Intranet, VPN, TCP/IP, Ethernet, etc.
  • Strong communication, Interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Customer Service or Sales Support experience
  • Proven Project Management skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A deep understanding or functional expertise in one or many of the following areas:
    • IIoT
    • Radio Networking
    • Communications
    • Sensor Technology
  • Knowledge of Distributed sensor networks for Industrial Applications in Process, Geotechnical, Structural, or Environmental
  • Basic device driver development experience (Firmware)

Place of Work & Travel:

  • Place of work will be in Munich (Germany)
  • Travel: 25-50% (mainly Central / Western Europe and UK)
