Software Test Engineer

Mountain View, CA
USD 130k - 209k
C++ Python
We believe aircraft should fly themselves. Automated aviation systems will enable a future where air transportation is safer, more convenient and fundamentally transformative to the way goods — and eventually people — move around the planet. We are a team of mission-driven engineers with experience across aerospace, robotics and self-driving cars working to make this future a reality.

As a Software Test Engineer at Reliable Robotics, you will be a part of the Testing team. The Testing team owns the hardware-in-the-loop (HITL) test environments, which means we own the physical hardware construction and maintenance as well as the software infrastructure that enables automated and manual tests. Additionally, our team uses these HITL environments to test Reliable Robotics autonomous systems. In summary, this team develops and maintains essential test tools for the company, and directs HITL verification and validation activities to ensure our product is safe, successful and meets certification requirements.

In your role as Software Test Engineer, you will define the plan for how various engineering projects and programs must be tested. You will execute on that testing plan using HITL test environments and any other necessary testing tools. You will work in a highly collaborative environment with engineering teams across the entire company, as you define test plans and execute tests in parallel to development. You will be embedded into projects, attending project plannings and project standup meetings to provide testing expertise and leadership. During the certification phase, you will also be responsible for developing test cases that verify system requirements, for running those test cases and for reporting the test results.
Beyond the test engineering responsibilities above, this position will also provide you the opportunity to develop automated test cases and test analysis, as well as contribute to the underlying test software infrastructure. It is expected that you will be able to add automated tests that follow the basic schema of existing automated tests, but you will have the technical support and the time to grow automation skills so that you can add more technically complex code.

Basic Success Criteria

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent experience
    • 3+ years of experience testing distributed, high-performance or mission-critical systems
    • Previous experience with C/C++ and Python
    • Previous experience using hardware-in-the-loop testbeds
    • Strong technical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
    • Excellent documentation and collaboration skills

Preferred Criteria

    • Previous experience deploying or maintaining complex continuous integration systems
    • Previous experience developing automated test cases
    • Comfortable with a fast-paced, agile/iterative development life cycle
    • Previous experience with SAE ARP4754, DO-178C and/or DO-254 compliances
This position requires working from our headquarters in Mountain View, CA because of its focus on the HITL test environment. However, this position is flexible with working from home depending on project and program schedule.
The estimated salary range for this position is $130,500 to $209,500. At Reliable Robotics, we strive to provide competitive and rewarding compensation based on experience and expertise, as well as market conditions, location, and pay equity.
In addition to base compensation, Reliable Robotics offers stock options, employee medical, 401k contribution, great co-workers and a casual work environment.
