Product Engineer - Developer Dashboard

Remote San Francisco, CA
API
Description

📍 Location: NY or SF preferred, Remote possible

The best documentation knows about each developer and is bespoke to them… and we’d love to have you help us build this! We’ve been doing great docs for years, and now we want to layer realtime API logs and API keys on top of the docs, so developers can debug and know exactly what’s wrong. We’re looking for a product-focused engineer who gets excited to build new products and wants to help drive this.

We believe everyone should see something different when they get to the docs. If it’s your first time, you want to see a getting started guide and find your API keys. If it’s your 50th time and everything’s broken, you want to be able to see what’s going wrong and debug how to fix it. We know so much about how people use APIs, and we want to bring that to transforming the documentation from static paragraphs to a powerful tool.

We’re looking for a developer who loves understanding customer problems as much as they love writing code. If you get excited by trying new things, seeing what works and iterating on it, you’ll be a perfect fit.

✅ What You’ll Do at ReadMe

  • Work with me (Greg, the CEO!), customers and the rest of the team to define the product direction.

  • Work to make large amounts of data easily digestible and extract actionable insights.

  • Build notification plugins for Slack, Intercom, Zendesk, email and more.

  • Talk to customers and understand how they’re using the tools and what else we can build to help them delight their developers.

  • Add a bit of whimsy wherever possible!

💙 You’ll love this job if you are…

  • A product engineer who’s excited about metrics and data visualization.

  • Excited to improve the developer experience of APIs, and work to make APIs usable by as many people as possible.

  • Focused on listening to your users, and enjoy working with them to build versatile features.

  • Interested in taking complex data and making it simple and easy to understand.

  • Passionate about making products people love.

🌱 How you’ll grow in one month

  • Become familiar with our latest version of Developer Dashboard.

  • Work on small bugs and features, and release new versions.

  • Suggest improvements to our product.

  • Talk to customers and learn what they love (and hate!)

  • Learn that we really do have an owl drawing for everything.

🪴 Within a few months, you’ll…

  • Get to know our customers and what they’re looking for in our Dev Dashboard product.

  • Work on changes to API Dev Dashboard that make the user experience more seamless.

  • Start diving deeper into the technical aspects of our API metrics systems.

  • Begin contributing ideas for long-term product improvements based on customer feedback and your own observations.

🌳 Within your first year, you’ll…

  • Be the expert in API metrics, and not just within ReadMe!

  • Contribute to ReadMe’s product vision.

🛣️ What’s the hiring process like?

  • We can’t wait to read your resume and (hopefully personality-filled) cover letter! Let us know what excites you about developer products, and help us get to know you better.

  • If we think we might be a good fit for you, we’ll set up a 30 minute phone chat with Kenny, our VP of Engineering. He’ll tell you more about the role, and get a chance to hear about your experiences.

  • Next will be a second 30 minute phone interview with Greg, our Founder & CEO, where we’ll dive a bit more into your background.

  • Then we’ll invite you to an "onsite" interview conducted over Zoom! These usually take 3.5 to 5 hours including an hour break in between. We are able to be flexible with the schedule and split it up over two days if that works best for you! We start with a 15-minute get-to-know-you with the team so you can meet the people you’ll be working with, and then have you talk with people one-on-one later on.

  • We’ll let you know how things went within a week! If it still seems like a good fit all around, we’ll extend you an offer. If not, we will update you to let you know so you aren’t left hanging.

✨ Our benefits include…

  • Unlimited PTO with a three-week minimum. 🏝️

  • Fully covered medical, dental, and vision insurance for you, and 100% for your dependents. 🩺

  • A One Medical membership. 🧑‍⚕️

  • Take a look at our handbook for more information on our benefits! 📘
