Business Overview

Rakuten has provided several entertainment services, such as Rakuten Books, Rakuten Ticket, Rakuten Music, Rakuten TV, etc. ESDD is the development team for those services.

 

Department Overview

Books Service Section at ESDD is responsible for the development and maintenance of Rakuten Books' entertainment content services.

Rakuten Books is Rakuten's oldest direct sales model e-commerce service, so it provides a wide variety of service functions and supports many systems products.

Specifically, our section develops and supports a wide range of systems including Frontend (UI/UX), Backend (order/shipping management), Item procurement, BI, BPM, and Accounting, and our organizational structure is over 80 ppl.

Many projects are always being carried out with a focus on improving services and expanding functionality as services grow each year. In addition, our mission is to ensure the stable operation of the services and products we provide in order to achieve business goals.

Our department uses a wide range of technology stacks and has a lot of engineering experience.

Rakuten Books is recruiting engineers in the front-end, back-end, and checkout functional areas to examine technology stacks, build systems, and maintain services in response to project requirements of various scales associated with business strategies.

We are looking for people who have experience in building systems with a sense of purpose and high service and maintainability, rather than simply building systems based on requests.

We are also proactively taking on new initiatives, making this a department where we can embody service design and a wide range of technical experience.

Position Details

  • High-quality web application development that understands business requirements (architecture design, DB table definition design, implementation, testing, deployment)
  • Mainly Java and JS based application development.
  • System maintenance maintenance work (LCM & EOL, security audit, monitoring, troubleshooting, bug response)
  • Ensuring observability (Logging/Monitoring/Alerting/Tracing)
  • Collaboration and coordination with infrastructure engineers and SRE team
  • Building containerized applications
  • Promoting microservices architecture
  • Introduction of CI/CD
  • Proposal of new technology stack
  • The main expected skills other than Java are as follows. 

 

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Java web application development experience
  • 3+ years of Spring Framework experience
  • 3+ years of experience with React, Vue.js, Next.js, Node.js
  • Kubernetes experience
  • Docker experience
  • Jenkins experience
  • Experience in developing/operating large or medium-sized web applications

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Design and development experience related to retail front-end or back office (especially experience with e-commerce sites is a plus)
  • Knowledge and experience related to payments of EC site
  • Deep knowledge of React, Vue.js, Next.js, Node.js
  • 3+ years of front-end development experience (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc.)
  • Deep knowledge of microservices, Docker, Kubernetes
  • Experience in building and operating a CI/CD environment, especially experience using Tekton
  • Experience as SRE/DevOps
  • Experience with Public Cloud (GCP, AWS, Azure)
  • Selection and construction of monitoring system
  • Experience in traffic management using CDN and cache systems
  • More than 5 people, more than half a year of project lead and successful experience
  • Experience in technology stack architecture selection
  • Experience in proactively promoting work with a sense of purpose, ownership, and awareness of issues.
  • TOEIC score of 800 over or business conversation level
