Technical Localization Project Manager (Italian Speaking)

As a Technical Localization Project Manager you will be part of the Localization Chapter and will work alongside Localization Project Managers, Language Leads and our extended team of freelance linguists. The team's primary objective is to provide high-quality localization of different content types in 18+ languages at scale, by collaborating with internal stakeholders from Product/Engineering, Marketing, Brand, Sales, and other key teams. 

Another focus area of the team is to constantly improve the quality of our existing localized content, as well as streamline our operations and processes. Adopting a data-driven methodology, we systematically identify opportunities to better support our non-English users.

What you’ll be doing:

As a Technical Localization Project Manager you will be responsible for driving the vision and roadmap of all technical aspects of our localization efforts. This includes tooling and automation/integrations, machine translation implementation, and leveraging AI for localization innovation. Working closely with stakeholders across the company and within the localization team, you will play a key role in ensuring the seamless adaptation of our educational content for diverse markets and languages.

Key responsibilities will include:

Drive vision and roadmap of tooling and AI for localization

• Assess current tooling and workflow solutions and define short, mid and long-term recommendations to increase efficiency and scalability (not necessarily within the confines of existing tooling)
• Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices in localization technology and automation, sharing knowledge and insights with the team.
• Research and evaluate emerging technologies and AI solutions for localization, identifying opportunities for innovation and efficiency gains.

Optimize core automation flows and tooling

• Collaborate with internal teams to refine and enhance the integration of machine translation solutions into our localization workflows.
• Oversee the ongoing management, maintenance and optimization of our Translation Management System (TMS) and project management tools Jira Monday.com maximizing their functionality and troubleshooting any issues for internal and external users
• Collaborate cross-functionally to test and implement AI solutions that support the scaling of localization coverage.
• Collaborate with the engineering team to ensure i18n best practices are being followed
• Automate quality processes to ensure consistent and accurate localization of content across multiple languages.
• Create and maintain documentation of localization tooling and automation solutions in use at Preply

Linguistic tasks

• Complete some linguistic tasks such as quality control or ad-hoc requests for localized content in your native language (Italian)

What you need to succeed:

• Bachelor's degree, in Translation/Localization, Computational linguistics, Language Studies, International Studies, Marketing (or a related field) 
• Proven experience in localization and technical project management, with a focus on localization, translation, or language technology.
• Professional fluency in English & native level Italian
• Strong knowledge of industry-standard localization, project management and CMS tools (e.g. Crowdin, Phrase, Lokalise, Jira, monday.com)
• Strong experience with TMS implementation and management.
• Familiarity with machine translation technologies and their integration into localization workflows.
• Strong organizational skills, eye for detail and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines
• Growth-mindset, curiosity, and willingness to continuously learn
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment

Nice to have:

• Proven track record implementing AI solutions for localization
• Previous experience with Crowdin, Jira and Monday.com
• Experience scaling localization workflows for performance marketing and brand focused visual assets
• Basic programming skills to create macros, Google sheet automations
