Title:   Backend Engineer

Location:  Washington DC

Terms:  Full-Time

Premise is growing! We’re hiring a Software Engineer who is passionate about collaboration, working with geospatial data, and building quality systems. You will be responsible for taking our backend systems to the next level as we continue to scale. Your work will involve developing, maintaining, and improving on our APIs, data processing pipelines, and CI/CD workflows, as well as building out new features. As a Software Engineer, you will work with a cross-functional team of other Engineers and Data Scientists to support business initiatives. Your work will be crucial to all phases of the software development life cycle from planning, development, testing, to releasing. This position will have an impact on both internal and customer facing platforms for attribute-rich geospatial data.

What you get to do:

• Produce high-quality, maintainable code using Node.js and Python to develop, scale, and maintain our APIs and data processing pipelines for a geospatial analytics platform hosted with Kubernetes and Google Cloud Platform.
• Build new features and tooling for a geospatial analytics application
• Build out and maintain existing data stores with ElasticSearch, PostgreSQL, and Google Cloud’s Big Query to support APIs and data processing pipelines.
• Identify and leverage opportunities to continually improve performance, data quality, security, systems, processes, and standards as we scale. 
• Collaborate with other engineers and data scientists to ensure code and technology meets internal standards, follows established processes, and mitigates risk.

Minimum Qualifications:

• BS in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent industry experience
• Experience building data-serving APIs
• Proficiency in Node.js and/or Python
• Experience working with PostgreSQL or other relational databases to work with large datasets
• Experience with cloud computing
• Knowledgeable in container-based deployments

Preferred Qualifications

• Working experience with Google Cloud Platform
• Previous experience working with large geospatial datasets and applications
• Passionate about tests and identifying ways to mitigate risk
• Experience with version control and build systems
• Experience with the full software development lifecycle from planning, development, testing, and releasing
