About the Role:
The Professional Services Solutions Engineering Manager is an experienced technologist who works with customers to make them successful users of Planet's product offerings. They are an exemplary team leader, a Solutions Engineer and their efforts are directly visible to customers and stakeholders within Planet. The Solutions Engineering Manager provides leadership and technical oversight for the regional Professional Services team, and leads customer engagements to successful outcomes.
Impact You’ll Own:
- Manage a team of Professional Services Solutions or Software Engineers
- Apply expertise in remote sensing and geospatial technologies to help Planet’s Professional Services customers be successful in their adoption of the Planet Platform
- Lead the technical delivery of solutions to Planet’s customers and align Professional Services projects to customer business and technology requirements and deliver exceptional customer value
- Own the technical oversight of multiple major projects, leading technical delivery on time and under budget
- Champion team processes like agile, test driven development, source control, etc
- Write technical specifications, reduce complexity, identify risks and help the team course-correct around issues
- Clearly communicate project timelines, scope and risks to the team
- Assist in scoping new projects and in technical writing for proposals and project reports
- Perform advanced design and implementation of Professional Services software solutions
- Build software tools, applications and customer demonstrations using Planet’s APIs and analytics endpoints
- Own the customer success lifecycle for Professional Services engagements; from scoping and discovery, to project execution and delivery. Customer success lifecycle management may include: writing requirements documents, applying expertise in data analytics, collaborating with software engineers, leading a training event, or delivering solutions to a client
- Mentor team members to identify growth opportunities and growth areas. Identify short-term and long-term career objectives and track progress
- Collaborate with the Professional Services Business Operations team to help close business opportunities
- Influence the direction of Planet’s products and offerings by gathering insights from customer engagements and effectively providing insights to the Product Roadmap

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to convey complex ideas to others in a concise and clear manner
- Experience influencing customer decisions at all levels of the customer organization, from individual contributor to CEO
- Proven ability to quickly learn unfamiliar systems & code bases
- Proven ability to provide solutions to address and unblock dynamic situations, as well as debug and triage complex problems
- Ability to develop fresh ideas for applications and processes that can improve team and customer operations
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively as part of a team
What Makes You Stand Out:
- Degree in GIS, Computer Science, Remote Sensing, Geography or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred
- 3+ years experience managing a team of solution or software engineers delivering software or services to customers
- 5+ years experience working in a technical geospatial or remote sensing role
- Experience programming with Python to process imagery, manipulating vector data, interacting with APIs and building data processing pipelines and/or extensive experience delivering professional services to large enterprise customers like national or state governments and fortune 1000 companies
- Expertise with QGIS, Esri software, GDAL or other common geospatial software
- Familiarity with cloud-based architectures, AI and machine learning
- Demonstrated ability to lead customer engagements
- Ability to run workshops or training sessions with users

Compensation:
The US base salary range for this full-time position at the commencement of employment is $137,070 - $171,360. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives (commission, bonus and equity). The final salary range is determined by job related experience, skills and location. The range displays our typical hiring range for new hire salaries in US locations only.
