About the Role:

The Staff Software Development Engineer will work with one or more product teams. PitchBook is embracing the Team Topology and Stream Aligned Teams structure. This role will engage across stream aligned teams, Platform Team, Enabling Team(s) and Complex Subsystems teams. You will also be actively engaging with the PitchBook Architecture function and the Software Development Engineers community.

As a Staff Software Development Engineer within the Product organization, you will be responsible for architecting and delivering the next suite of services that power the PitchBook platform. You will be essential in guiding one or more technical teams to build exceptional solutions relied upon and used by thousands of PitchBook customers every day and work with PitchBook professionals around the world with the collective goal of delighting our customers and growing our business.

The team will rely on your broad and deep experience in building and delivering comprehensive cloud solutions and full understanding of the team’s business domain to shape principles, practices and capture just-in-time decisions based on trade-off analysis. With your strong analytical skills, you’ll be able to break down abstract and complex problems into smaller problems and apply Domain Driven Design approaches such as identifying bounded contexts and establish decomposition process. You will be expected to devise solutions based on limited information and precedent to find creative ways to tackle challenges. It is essential that you will be able to interpret, assess and resolve a wide range of issues and be able to select the right course of action.

You will collaborate with external and internal stakeholders of different roles and  backgrounds who may have varying degrees of understanding of the domain. You may need to adapt your style of communication based on the audience you are interacting with and will be relied on to influence decisions to build optimal solutions to complex challenges. Additionally, as a technical expert in a broad set of domains, you will be expected to engage actively in promoting architecture guideline, principles and practices across teams, and be a driver for consistency and alignment for cross cutting concerns using influence and effective communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Architect, design, develop and maintain components of PitchBook’s services including backend with aspects of front-end related to architecture (micro front-end patterns). Hands-on development will be part of the responsibilities
  • Ensure qualities/non-functional requirements of the platforms and products are defined, measurable and are continuously evaluated to deliver the right product to our users
  • Document architecture evolutions (current state, future state, phasing), communicate architecture and elaborate with teams
  • Implement well-designed, testable and efficient code that meets product requirements, coding standards, performance, scalability, reliability and the organization’s goals and principles
  • Collaborate with other engineers, product managers and other internal stakeholders in an Agile environment
  • Provide technical guidance and perform architectural reviews with team members
  • Design and deliver on end-to-end initiatives with little to no guidance
  • Define and participate in processes that improve products using return on experience, root cause analysis of incidents
  • Support the vision and values of the company through role modeling and encouraging desired behaviors
  • Participate in various company initiatives and projects as requested

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a similar field
  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years in Software Development or Engineering roles
  • 4+ years of experience with Java or a similar object-oriented language
  • 2+ years of experience developing micro service
  • Experienced in Service-Oriented & Microservices Architecture, Cloud Architecture, Domain Driven Design (DDD), Clean Architecture and Hexagonal Architecture
  • Fluent in identifying and applying architecture patterns, designing RESTful API
  • Have worked on middleware, platform or system of systems
  • Experienced with web technologies and standards (e.g., JSON, JWT)
  • Experienced with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Experienced in Spring Boot/Spring Framework
  • Experienced with Container orchestration software (e.g., Kubernetes)
  • Highly experienced working within a development team in an Agile environment
  • Ability to handle a project through the entire software development lifecycle, end to end
  • Demonstrate ability to lead and/or provide guidance to junior peers across multiple teams
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Strong problem-solving ability

Compensation

  • Annual base salary: $141,500-$254,150
  • Target annual bonus percentage: 15%

 

*Starting pay will be based on several factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience. We also have a location-based compensation structure; there may be different ranges for candidates by location.
