Senior Backend Engineer (Java/Groovy)

As part of the AI Research & Development department in the Machine Translation Enablement team, you as Senior Backend Engineer will become a formative member of a team that ensures a seamless Machine Translation experience for all our customers. With your doing at Phrase you will help internal and external customers to use Machine Translation engines as easily as possible. Without the need of knowing every Machine Translation engine out there, our AI picks the right engine and uses it without the need of user's interaction. Together with fellow Backend & Frontend Engineers and members of QA and UX you make this vision even more a reality. A Tech Lead, a Product Manager and a Engineering Manager and Director are supporting you on your development journey. 

Responsibilities in the role:

• Developing Java / Groovy backend services according to the assignment
• Collaborating with a mature, cross-functional team
• Participating in refinement sessions for upcoming initiatives and Cadence based planning events
• Guiding more Junior Engineers with your knowledge and experience 
• Be proactive with sharing your ideas and insights

• Creating solutions that scale - our database contains terabytes of data, and we serve ten thousand requests per minute and are still growing

What you should have already experienced:

• Developing Java and Spring Boot-based applications
• Knowledge of REST architecture
• Prior experience with SQL, NoSQL and different queuing solutions (e.g. Kafka, RabbitMQ)
• Test automation using JUnit/Spock
