Staff Software Engineer

Braintree lets you move money from consumer to merchant safely and securely. Every time you pay for an Uber ride or book a stay through Airbnb, you’re probably using our product. The Braintree Post Processing group is responsible for what happens to a transaction after it is authorized and settled. That means we own calculating fees, managing charge-disputes lifecycles, and moving money into merchants’ accounts. This group covers pricing & fee calculation as well as Disputes lifecycle management. We are widely distributed, mostly remote. We practice (remote) pair programming, TDD, and we value a strong software engineering best practices. Within this group, Pricing Continuity team is responsible for stability, compliance, and domain isolation for the Pricing domain.

About the role:

• Design, and implement complex, multi-tier distributed software applications, document and test systems, modify as appropriate.
• Anchor projects with other engineers, architects, managers, and Product Management, QA, and Operations teams to design and develop innovative processes and create solutions that meet business requirements.
• Provide technical and project leadership and mentoring.
• Build key components of our platform via pair programming with other engineers.
• Be a valued member of an autonomous, cross-functional agile team.
• Build performance sensitive systems that serve tens of millions of requests each day.
• Be an active voice in architectural decisions for PayPal's core payments system.

Requirements:

• 7+ years of experience in software engineering
• Design and operational experience with large scale production grade systems
• Deep experience in one or more of the following: Kotlin, Java, Python, Ruby, JavaScript, or shell scripting.
• Strong understanding of algorithmic techniques, design patterns and best practices.
• Experience building and maintaining large distributed systems on one of the major cloud providers
• Extensive API design and development experience.
• Strong technical accomplishments in SQL, ETLs and data analysis skills; MySQL, Postgres, Redshift, or similar data handling experience.
• Experience with infrastructure as code tooling such as Terraform.
• Ability to work in a fast paced, agile development environment.
• Ability to partner with business units, product management, program management and cross-functional teams to deliver business results with agility and high quality.
• Excellent time management skills and ability to work on concurrent assignments with different priorities.
• Proven results-oriented engineer with a focus on the customer and delivering quality products.
• Knowledge/experience with Unix. Knowledge/experience with GitHub.
