What you need to know about the role:
This is a horizontal tech lead role to bring in solutions for enabling cloud efficiency contributing to "Power every payment" KPI of PayPal. It is expected that the candidate creates value by architecting, developing full stack software products that serve as the FinOps platform for PayPal to improve productivity of application developers for PayPal and operate on hybrid cloud efficiently. Candidate would leverage the synergies of all products and programs under Cloud enablement and efficiency org - where we have data application lifecycle management products, cloud onboarding and cloud cost governance, proxy services to public cloud providers like GCP to generate outcomes that move the needle for PayPal FinOps. Candidate should be a good team player and work collaboratively with subject matter experts and other lead engineers on the team to win together as a team.

Meet our team:

We are Cloud Efficiency and Enablement organization in PayPal, who enhance cloud efficiency through optimization strategies while governing and automating cloud onboardings E2E, and our products like DALM manages data application life cycle from creation till deployment on production. We have cutting edge proxy services which can talk to any public cloud provider like GCP to act like our guard and invoke automation through their APIs. And our next generation product, COPTR (Cloud Optimization and Recommendation Engine), plays pivotal role in PayPal’s FinOps framework currently available for GCP in Data Analytics. It streamlines cloud adoption through self-service budget approvals, offers spending insights across technical and business portfolios, resulting in savings of >$8M in 2023, reduced TTM from 15 to 5 days in 2023, with a target of fully automated near real time onboarding in 2024. We plan to expand this as the one FinOps foundational product for PayPal's hybrid cloud.

FinOps is one such transformation journey in PayPal where we are converging several products of PayPal into one horizontal strong FinOps foundational product to enable Hybrid cloud efficiency and onboarding. Your role as a lead engineer to define the problem statements in partnership with our product, architect that into strong engineering solution which is reliable, operable, fault tolerant, sustainable and available is an exciting role to be in and create impact. Your solutions, design will help to reduce TTM for cloud onboarding to as low as < 30 mins from current 10-15 days, and allow us to operate with efficiency


Your day-to-day:

• Think out of the box - don't be afraid to innovate!
• Co-develop & follow best practices related to SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) & Agile methods to raise the level of automation and quality in our code repos
• Embrace open-source – either by using it, extending it, or inventing new projects
• Share your work with the world-at-large via authoring blogs & articles, contributing to open source projects, and by speaking internally (and external to PayPal)
• Balance all of this against the need to execute • Mentor colleagues to help develop strong coding practices and standards across the organization




What you need to bring:

• Proficient in one or more of Java, Scala, Python, and Go is required
• Outstanding implementation skills is required
• 12+ years of experience in developing and/or enhancing scalable server-side

components

• Good OOP skills combined with solid SDLC practices like code reviews, unit testing, integration testing and continuous integration
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across the whole tech stack - language, databases, web servers and system environment
• Experience with one of the relational databases (Oracle, MySQL) and one of the NoSQL databases is a must
• Experience in developing RESTful APIs is a must
• Experience with front end technologies like React and/or Angular is a big plus
• Knowledge of Google cloud and Hadoop ecosystem technologies (Spark, Pig, Hive, Impala/Presto, Druid) is a plus
• Open-source contribution is a plus
