What you need to know about the role This position offers an opportunity to work as a Site Reliability Engineer in the Production Engineering team building Production site monitoring and site management tools and solving problems that would improve the reliability of the PayPal site and services. Meet our team The Production Reliability Engineering & Operations (PREO) org is part of the larger Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) organization and is focused on monitoring the PayPal production site and managing incidents that would impact availability and the services offered to our customers and merchants. PREO org is building a new Production Engineering team with highly talented technologists who would be working on building Production site monitoring and site management tools and solving problems that would improve the reliability of the PayPal site and services.

Your way to impact

You directly contribute to building production site monitoring and site management tools thus maintaining the high availability of the PayPal production site and continuously improving its reliability.

- You assist the Prod Ops team in troubleshooting complex production site issues that affect our merchants’ and customers’ ability to use the PayPal products.

- You work on finding long term solutions to problems.

Your day to day

This position offers you the opportunity to work directly with SRE teams on features, operations and reliability engineering, to improve the outcomes that our customers deserve.

Develop and improve production site monitoring and Site management tools to improve MTTD, MTTR and bring operational excellence via automation.

Be the primary enabler in the reduction of Failed Customer Interactions (FCI) to raise our availability to all our users.

Lead constructive retrospective sessions to help us enhance the whole lifecycle of services—from inception and design, through deployment, operation, and refinement.

Work with the Technical Duty Officers, Critical Incident Managers, and other PPCC support teams to resolve critical site incidents and find long-term solutions for problems.

What do you need to bring
6+ years of software development or operations experience.

Scripting languages (Python).

Expertise in CORE Java concepts and JavaScript.

Experience with database concepts (SQL or NO SQL).

Knowledge in systems and multi-tier application architecture.

Experience with GitOps and OaC preferred. Demonstrable knowledge of Terraform, Jenkins, Artifactory.

Preferred skills:

Experience in Linux systems.

Experience with infrastructure/cloud technologies (GCP, AWS, Azure) preferred. 

Excellent troubleshooting, debugging and problem-solving skills.

Experience with load balancing principles (F5 & Avi).

Familiarity with configuration management and automation (e.g. Puppet, Ansible).

Experience with handling production site incidents.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.
