Senior Staff Software Engineer

Meet our team • We are responsible for upholding a high organizational bar for key engineering functions (Architecture & Design, Operational Excellence, Release Quality, Scalability & Efficiency). • We develop new or influence existing frameworks of broad scope, across business units, and even PayPal as a whole (ex. hiring and interviewing, TPM model, project & process management and more). • We maintain and evolve engineering best practices, service and application templates, build & release standards, engineering on-boarding models. We will evaluate new and emerging technologies for their best applications within our stack. • We drive key cross-organizational efforts, including PayPal regulatory asks (ex. GCP cost reduction, Slack migration). We will be responsible for the process, team engagement, communication, and delivery. We will identify and partner with relevant teams (Core, SRE, etc.). • We provide technical leadership to ensure smooth planning, execution, and delivery of the most critical Honey missions.

Your way to impact

Directly interact with leadership within and outside the PayPal Shopping business unit. Participate in scoping and planning critical business initiatives. Lead architecture design and technical solution for complex components identified by the scoping process. Preserve and stive for aligned autonomy between the engineering teams, between product and engineering and other key business roles. Uphold high standards and best practices for operational excellence, system design, scalability, and efficiency. Coach and mentor other engineers across the Shopping orgs. Build bridges across diverse technology stacks part of PayPal’s evolving technology strategy.

Your day to day

Day to day does not easily apply here. You are expected to participate in various seasonal functions around planning architecture, large-scale event readiness, planned and unplanned event responses. It is a common practice for members of our group to have a closer and on-going relationship, integration with other orgs, product leaders and partners to represent for their needs within our group and advocate for a coherent strategy. Navigating those with ample autonomy, expectation of right judgement calls and ability to influence broadly comprise our day-to-days.

• Robust experience in highly scalable backend systems, architecture, and engineering design
• Excellent communication, time and project management abilities
• Experience with cloud-managed services and ability to navigate diverse technology stacks
• Understanding of risk, security, data sensitivity and resilience concerns with technology
• Insistence on high standards, aligning different opinions into a coherent strategy
• Focus on customer
• Desire to coach and mentor others
